Many vessels delayed Saturday by high winds
With storm warnings issued for most of Lake Huron and Lake Erie Saturday, a number of vessels went to anchor to wait out the weather.
Lake Huron – Lower St. Marys River
Sam Laud for the Soo and James R. Barker for Toledo were anchored off of the southwest shore between Lexington and Port Sanilac MI. Manitowoc, Algoma Compass and Algoma Intrepid were anchored in Saginaw Bay. Calumet was anchored in Thunder Bay off of Alpena. Bradshaw McKee / St Marys Conquest for Milwaukee were anchored in the South Channel off of Mackinaw City. In the Lower St Marys River north of Detour were Rt Hon Paul J. Martin for Two Harbors, Michipicoten for Sault Ste Marie, American Integrity and Walter J McCarthy, both for Duluth Superior. A bit further north, Herbert C. Jackson for Stoneport was anchored off of Sterling Bay, St Josephs Island.
Lake Erie
Algocanada for Sarnia, plus Federal Danube and Gardno for the Seaway were behind Point Peele, while Kom for the Seaway and CSL Laurenien for Nanticoke were on the hook off Kingsville, ON. John J Boland for Erie, Florence Spirit for Detroit and H. Lee White for Ashtabula were anchored east of Sandusky. Algoma Transport for Sandusky, CSL Tadoussac for Fairport, Algona Strongfield for Quebec City, Algonorth for Sorel-Tracy, Algoterra for Montreal, as well as Algonova and Algoscotia for Nanticoke were anchored off Turkey Point.
Welland Canal
The Welland Canal experienced also experienced traffic delays Saturday due to weather.

Duluth-Superior – Scott Bjorklund
Duluth Entry: Paul R. Tregurtha arrived at 07:07 (CST) Friday morning to fuel then load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Arthur M. Anderson departed at 08:13 empty for Two Harbors. Paul R. Tregurtha departed at 04:23 Saturday morning with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. Tug Meredith Ashton arrived at 14:31 to unload project cargo at Port Terminal. Floragracht arrived at 16:14 to unload project cargo at Port Terminal. As of Saturday night, Meredith Ashton was moored at Port Terminal while Floragracht was unloading at Port Terminal #2. Drawsko was anchored outside Duluth waiting to load wheat at Riverland Ag. John G. Munson is expected Saturday night to unload limestone at CN-Hallett #5. Drawsko is expected Sunday evening to load wheat at Riverland Ag.
Superior Entry: American Spirit arrived at 17:17 (CST) Friday evening to load iron ore pellets at BNSF. American Mariner arrived at 19:01 Saturday night to take a delay at Lakehead Pipeline. As of Saturday night, American Spirit was loading at BNSF, Whistler was loading at CHS#1, and American Mariner was taking a delay at Port Terminal. American Spirit is estimated to depart sometime Saturday night with iron ore pellets. Burns Harbor is expected Saturday night to load iron ore pellets at BNSF.
Two Harbors-Silver Bay – Gary A. Putney
The Joseph L. Block departed Two Harbors on 12/10 at 20:38 for Indiana Harbor. She first went to anchor off Port Wing, WI before continuing on. The Arthur M. Anderson shifted from South of #1 layby from 21:05 to 21:22 to South of #2. She departed on 12/11 at 06:43 for Nanticoke. Arriving Two Harbors on 12/11 at 07:00 was the Spruceglen. The American Mariner arrived off Two Harbors and stopped at approx. 09:03 to await South of #2. Arriving Two Harbors on 12/11 at 11:45 for South of #1 layby was the Victory/Maumee. Due Two Harbors on 12/12 are the Presque Isle that went North of Passage Island before heading down the North Shore. Also due on 12/12 is the John G. Munson that is due CN-Hallett #5 to unload stone before she heads to Two Harbors. Northshore Mining in Silver Bay saw the arrival of the Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader on 12/11 at 17:30
Thunder Bay, ON
Friday; 22:54 Federal Clyde departed for Cristobal Panama. 23:02 Cuyahoga proceeded to Thunder Bay Terminals. Saturday; 17:17 Federal Baltic departed for Montreal.
Northern Lake Huron
Cheboygan: Saturday; 8:22 The tug Albert and tanker barge Margaret arrived at the US Oil Co terminal to unload petroleum products.
Calcite:Saturday 10:32 Olive L Moore / Menominee departed down bound.
Stoneport: Saturday; 8:47 Calumet departed down bound
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Sault cleared 11.47pm Thursday downbound for Cote St Catherines with salt. John D Leitch cleared 6.50pm Friday upbound for Burns Harbour with salt. Leitch’s 3rd appearance in Goderich this season. Algoma Buffalo cleared 7.43am Saturday upbound for Chicago with salt. Buffalo’s 29th appearance in Goderich this season. Goderich now hosted 186 lake boats thus far this season.
