CSL Niagara had some trouble trying to back into Gateway Metroport on the morning of December 16th. She arrived via the South Entrance at 9AM and winded in the Outer Harbor without tugs. After she turned around, the Niagara attempted to back up the Lackawanna Canal but due to a stiff breeze blowing, they had to abort their approach and stop. The ship moved ahead to a position off the old Cargil Pool elevator pier and then tried again, this time successfully making it in and tying up about half way down the Main Dock. Coal was then loaded on board with the portable conveyors at the bulk apron. Loading took some time and they did not depart until 11:30PM on the 17th.
