Two Harbors-Silver Bay – Gary A. Putney.
Presque Isle departed Two Harbors on 12/31 at 09:51 for Gary. Edgar B. Speer arrived Two Harbors on 12/31 at 11:07. Defiance/Ashtabula went to anchor off Duluth on 12/31 at 10:07 to await the Two Harbors dock. At 19:00 on 12/31 the Walter J. McCarthy Jr. is North of Sand Island and the Great Republic is following the Michigan shore of Lake Superior near the Keweenaw both for Two Harbors. When I did my Port Report for 12/31 there was no traffic due Northshore Mining in Silver Bay. Both the Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader and Clyde S.VanEnkevort/Erie Trader were due Superior. on 12/31 both were switched to Silver Bay with the Joyce L. arriving at 10:02 on 12/31 and the Clyde S. should arrive by 20:00 on 12/31.
Thunder Bay, ON
Thursday; 10:25 Frontenac arrived at Viterra A to load grain. 17:52 Tim S Dool arrived at the Heddle Shipyard for winter layup. 22:09 CSL St Laurent arrived at Keefer Terminal for winter layup. Friday; 10:45 Algoma Conveyor departed for Hamilton.
St. Marys River
The McKeil Marine tug Beverly M 1 was upbound Friday afternoon with the barge Glovertown Spirit carrying a deck cargo of three Mitsubishi turbines destined for a power plant in Thunder Bay. Tug Kentucky took the stern position for the trip up the river.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports.
Atlantic Huron arrived at 09:16 Friday (12/31) with deicing salt from the Morton mines near Windsor. She backed into south slip one, outer harbor, and dropped her load on the open dock. In 2021, Milwaukee received 36 loads of salt by water (about 850,000 metric tons): 21 came from Goderich, 8 from Windsor, 7 from Cleveland. This compares with 44 loads in 2020 (roughly 1,130,000 metric tons): 26 coming from Goderich, 12 from Windsor, 6 from Cleveland. Salt accounts for over 50 percent of all cargo handled at Milwaukee’s municipal docks. Still in the harbor Friday was tank barge Margaret. Her tug departed for Sturgeon Bay Thursday evening.

McGregor Bay: Wednesday; 21:32 John D Leitch departed for Chicago.
Alpena: Wednesday; 11:25 Sam Laud arrived at the Lafarge Plant to unload petroleum coke and departed at 19:21 for Port Gypsum. Thursday; 17:44 G L Ostrander / Integrity arrived at the Lafarge plant to load cement products and departed at 23:53 for Detroit. Friday; 12:37 Herbert C Jackson arrived at the The Lafarge plant to unload.
Port Gypsum: Thursday; 4:15 Sam Laud arrived to load gypsum and departed at 20:10 for Waukeegan.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Saginaw continued at elevators Friday. Algoma Sault arrived 11.07 Friday tied up North Pier. Sault’s 16th appearance in Goderich this season. Algoma Innovator and Algoma Buffalo expected next in that order.
Lake Erie Ports for Friday – Bill Kloss
Happy New Year from Cleveland! Monroe: Iver Bright arrived from Sarnia at 08:11. Florence Spirit is unloading and Lee A. Tregurtha arrived late Friday night to unload at DTE.
Marblehead: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson loaded stone at LaFarge for a return trip to Cleveland.
Sandusky: Lee A. Tregurtha loaded coal and left for Monroe at 16:21. CSL Niagara moved up to the dock to load. Saginaw and Algoma Transport are anchored in Lake Erie.
Cleveland: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson arrived at 10:12 to unload at RiverDock. Fleetmate Dirk S.VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader arrived at 16:57 to unload at the Bulk Terminal.
Conneaut: Edwin H. Gott unloaded and departed for Two Harbors and John G. Munson arrived at 12:25 to unload at the P&C dock.
Nanticoke: Algonova left for Sarnia and Arthur M. Anderson departed for Duluth. Algonorth arrived late Friday night and went to anchor off of Port Dover.
