Duluth-Superior – Scott Bjorklund
Duluth Entry: No vessel traffic has taken place since the last report. As of Wednesday night, no vessels were in port on the Duluth side. John G. Munson is expected early Thursday morning to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Lee A. Tregurtha is expected late morning for winter lay-up at Fraser Shipyards. Arthur M. Anderson is expected early afternoon to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Finally, James R. Barker is expected early afternoon for winter lay-up at Port Terminal.
Superior Entry: Frontenac departed at 02:49 (CST) Wednesday morning with iron ore pellets for Nanticoke. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived at 03:30 to load iron ore pellets at BNSF. As of Wednesday night, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was loading at BNSF; they are estimated to depart early Thursday with iron ore pellets.
Two Harbors-Silver Bay – Gary A. Putney
Lee White arrived Two Harbors on 01/11 at 18:56. She departed on 01/12 at 06:27 for Gary. The Edwin H. Gott arrived on 01/12 at 07:59. Due Two Harbors on 01/13 are the Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader and the Indiana Harbor.
St. Marys River – Roger LeLievre
Ice hampered vessel traffic in the lower river again on Wednesday. One trouble spot was the Rock Cut, with USCG Mackinaw needed to help the downbound American Spirit make the turn above the Neebish Island ferry dock. Saginaw, American Mariner, John J. Boland and Sharon M1/barge were all stopped in the ice around 6 Mile Point waiting for the way to clear. Saginaw had some trouble at the lower end of the Rock Cut but by 3 p.m. everything was moving again. Kaye E. Barker was next, followed by Florence Spirit and CSL Assiniboine. USCG Bristol Bay and Mobile Bay have also been working the lower river tracks. CCGS Griffon in the river upbound in the evening, and by 8 p.m. was assisting CSL Assiniboine in the Rock Cut. Subzero temps the next two nights are bound make the ice situation worse.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Manitoulin cleared at 11:55 Wednesday morning upbound for Thunder Bay.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Cleveland: Herbert C. Jackson is on the second of 3 shuttles to the Cliffs mill on the Cuyahoga River. American Integrity is due to arrive on the 13th.
Conneaut: Great Republic departed at 08:29 for lay up in Toledo. American Century went to the P&C dock at 18:23.
Nanticoke: CSL Niagara arrived at 08:26 and anchored off of Port Dover. She went to Stelco at 20:34. Algonova and Algonorth are at Imperial Oil.. Algocanada is scheduled to arrive on Thursday.
