Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
General Mills was ready for the winter storage load from the American Mariner during early March. The crew came back to Buffalo and shifted her into position for unloading on the morning of the 8th. De-icers had been employed all winter around her hull, so shifting the boat was no problem for them. They wrapped it up around 12 midnight on the 10th and then the crew shifted to fitting out for departure with an estimate of about two weeks. After the unload the ship was completely pumped out, riding high with a mud ring around her hull, and exposed bow thruster. The ice off Buffalo is heavily packed in with wind rows and pressure ridges as far as the eye can see so ice breaker escort will be required if it doesn’t melt enough in the next week or two.
