Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
The outbound Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader cleared the Superior piers at 08:21 to begin what was a quieter day of vessel traffic in the Twin Ports. The pair is carrying Hibtac ore destined for Toledo. CSL Niagara arrived Superior at 10:35 to load Keetac pellets at BNSF Dock 5, and USCGC Spar departed shortly thereafter to presumably conduct spring buoy operations. This will be her first time servicing aids to navigation on Lake Superior. Despite showing an AIS destination of Superior, Manitoulin weighed anchor around 14:30 and headed to load at Two Harbors. In Duluth, Madeline Island Ferries passenger vessel Bayfield arrived for Fraser Shipyards at 15:30, and American Century was inbound at 20:25 to load coal at Midwest Energy. Hudsongracht is still unloading quartz at Clure Public Marine Terminal Berth 2. 

Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
John G. Munson departed Two Harbors at 01:45 for Gary. Sam Laud shifted to south of #2 and departed at 11:33 for Algoma Steel; arriving at 16:59 was Manitoulin. Edgar B. Speer is a potential late-night arrival for Two Harbors on Friday.

Manitowoc, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algoma Intrepid arrived at 12:51 with a cargo of grain for Briess Malt’s marine elevator. This is the first shipment delivered to the facility by vessel after the company stated its intention to shift imports from rail to water. 

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Atlantic Huron was inbound at 00:49 for Central Salt. Other early-morning traffic included the pair Caroline McKee/Commander, which arrived with cement from Charlevoix at 05:20 and proceeded down the Calumet River to unload at St. Marys. At 08:45, saltie Federal Frontier dropped anchor about halfway between the breakwater and Indiana Harbor. Her AIS shows a Chicago destination, so it is possible she may be waiting for the Fivelborg to depart the Iroquois Landing Lakefront Terminus. Atlantic Huron departed at 13:15; she is due next in Superior to load ore. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation rounded out the day’s activity, arriving at 20:23 with cement for Ozinga.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Wilfred Sykes arrived at 04:19 for Mittal West and remained at the dock throughout the day. Upon completion of discharging ore at Dock 7H, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. departed at 23:07 for Duluth-Superior.
Buffington, IN: Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader departed at 08:38.
Burns Harbor, IN: Manitowoc departed from the Cleveland-Cliffs dock at 18:48, and Federal Nakagawa followed her outbound at 21:37. The latter had been tied up at the Metro Ports facility and is due next in Montreal.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI: G.L. Ostrander/Integrity arrived at 04:57 to discharge at Lafarge. Upon completion, the pair were outbound at 18:48 for Alpena and another load of cement. 

Muskegon, MI – Roger LeLievre
Reports from Muskegon Thursday evening indicate the inbound Kaye E. Barker ran aground on a sandbar just off the harbor entry. AIS showed her at a standstill at 22:30.

Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
Making their first visit of 2022, Olive L. Moore/Menominee were inbound on the Saginaw River Thursday morning and headed up to the Saginaw Paving/Buena Vista dock to unload. The pair made more trips to the Saginaw River in 2021 than any other vessel, visiting a total of 24 times.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Conveyor cleared the piers at 12:22 upbound for Thunder Bay with salt. Due next at the Compass Minerals dock is Algoma Transport.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Calumet unloaded and departed for Detroit at 05:50.
Toledo, OH: Joseph L. Block arrived at 08:20, unloaded ore at Torco, and departed for Drummond Island at 16:50. Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader arrived at 18:45.
Marblehead, OH: Cuyahoga departed late Wednesday night for Kingsville. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson arrived at 06:07, loaded at Lafarge, and left for Cleveland.
Kingsville, OH: Cuyahoga arrived at 00:39 to unload at Southwestern Sales; she departed en route to Windsor at 05:03.
Lorain, OH: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson departed at 03:14 for Marblehead.
Cleveland, OH: Algoma Buffalo departed with salt for Toronto at 08:25, and Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder left for Marblehead after spending time on the shuttles. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived at 02:45 to unload cement at the Columbus Street Terminal. Leonard M arrived at 12:16 for Dock 24N; NOAA research vessel Thomas Jefferson was inbound at 09:13 and stopped at the Great Lakes Towing Shipyard. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement arrived with cement for the Jefferson Street Terminal at 16:51.
Erie, PA: Presque Isle is at anchor.
Nanticoke, ON: Edwin H. Gott left for Two Harbors at 12:42 after unloading ore at Stelco. Algosea and Algocanada are at Imperial Oil. 

Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After nearly ten days in port, Federal Champlain was outbound at 06:54 with a cargo of grain for Dublin, Ireland. Mandarin weighed anchor at the same time to fill the vacancy at the Richardson Terminal, and fleetmate Shoveler arrived via the canal at 07:12 before dropping anchor in the inner harbor. Jessica B arrived at 12:57 to load grain at G3, Johanna G departed at 15:42 for Thunder Bay, and Algoma Harvester arrived with Hibtac pellets for ArcelorMittal Dofasco at 19:48. A pair of vessels at anchor – Perelik and Vlieborg – got underway for Federal Marine Terminals East between 20:00 and 21:00 to unload steel. At 22:31, tanker Chem Lyra arrived with UAN for Agrico. Other vessels in port included Damia Desgagnes in lay-up at Lafarge and Tundra and Marietje Deborah at anchor.

Montreal, QC – Joshua Hebeisen
Viking Octantis, soon to become the largest cruise ship to ever sail the Great Lakes, departed Montreal at 07:16 bound for Toronto. This will be the first stop in her inaugural cruise of the region. She is expected to make several trips between all five Great Lakes this summer, including stops at Milwaukee, Thunder Bay, and Duluth.
