Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Just before midnight on Monday, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. cast off from BNSF Dock 5 with her holds full of Keetac pellets. The footer cleared the Superior piers for Conneaut at 00:31 Tuesday, passing the anchored Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin out in the lake. CSL’s veteran freighter had been waiting on the hook to load at BNSF since Sunday night; however, she would defer the newly-vacated dock to fleetmate Frontenac instead. Frontenac made her way inbound at 01:36 shortly after fellow classic Hon. James L. Oberstar departed Superior light for Marquette. In Duluth, Paul R. Tregurtha was outbound at 05:02 after spending the night loading at Midwest Energy. The Queen of the Lakes is carrying a split load of coal for power plants in St. Clair and on the Saginaw River. Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Viking Octantis made her first American port of call on Tuesday morning, arriving the Detroit River at 06:53 and tying up at Nicholson where saltie Federal Churchill was handling cargo. At the same time, Algoma Intrepid departed Windsor across the river and headed upbound for Lake St. Clair. Yesterday’s report incorrectly listed her as fueling at Sterling Fuels Limited; rather, she was discharging stone at Miller Aggregates Southwest farther up on the dock face. The Octantis departed at 14:19 for her next stop in Alpena, and Baie Comeau was downbound for Johnstown, Ontario an hour later after casting off from Windsor Salt. Mistersky fuel in Detroit only serviced one vessel on Tuesday, Mesabi Miner, who stopped in port from 15:18 to 18:17 on her way to Duluth-Superior. Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II are still at the St. Marys Cement terminal on the River Rouge, and Harvest Spirit remains loading at ADM in Windsor.
