Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader arrived with the sun on a beautiful morning in Duluth. After making their way inbound at 06:19, the pair sailed down Superior Bay and tied up at Graymont to unload limestone. Farther south in Allouez Bay, Burns Harbor topped off with Hibtac pellets at BNSF Dock 5 and was outbound for her namesake port at 07:53. ASC fleetmate American Century left the Midwest Energy terminal in Superior and made her way to the Duluth Ship Canal, departing with coal for DTE’s St. Clair facility at 10:39. With her holds empty, Great Lakes Trader was guided by Joyce L. VanEnkevort to BNSF at 16:00. The VanEnkevort detached from her barge and headed back to Duluth for fuel at Calumet; she reunited with the Trader about three hours later. During this time, USCGC Spar left the Coast Guard slip to place a buoy in the inner harbor. She later departed under the Aerial Lift Bridge at 16:41 to conduct aids to navigation operations elsewhere on the lake. The last to join the Cinco de Mayo celebrations were Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader, arriving Duluth at 20:42 to discharge limestone at C. Reiss. 

Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Indiana Harbor departed Two Harbors at 09:29 for Gary Works. At 19:00, Victory/Maumee are approximately 12 miles east of Two Harbors, and Mesabi Miner is northeast of Outer Island heading for Two Harbors.

Thunder Bay, ON – Anonymous
At 04:07, Algoma Transport arrived at the main anchorage waiting for her turn at Thunder Bay Terminals. Fleetmate Algoma Intrepid arrived at the MobilEx terminal to load potash at 07:58. At 15:03, saltwater vessel Cape, also taking on potash, finished loading at Thunder Bay Terminals and departed for an overseas port. Algoma Transport proceeded to the dock to load coal.

Northern Lake Michigan Ports – Anonymous
Brevort, MI: Defiance/Ashtabula arrived to load processed sand at 15:36.
Charlevoix, MI: Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived to load at the St. Marys Cement plant at 11:47.

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Algoma Innovator was inbound at 3:12 to tie up at Compass Minerals near the mouth of the Calumet River. Passing her at midday was the saltwater vessel Ronnie, sailing farther down the river to the Chicago Rail and Port dock. Caroline McKee/Commander arrived at 13:56 for the St. Marys facility near Lake Calumet, and the Innovator shifted to the Port of Chicago’s Iroquois Landing Lakefront Terminus about an hour later. Arthur M. Anderson departed for Buffington at 18:42 after spending the day at KCBX.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Joseph L. Block shifted from Dock 7H back to Mittal West at about 07:00. It is possible that she is shuttling excess ore from the soon-to-be-closed blast furnace on the western side of the harbor to #7 on the east.
Buffington, IN: Arthur M. Anderson arrived from South Chicago at 21:00.
Gary, IN: Edgar B. Speer departed at 15:18 for more Minntac pellets from Two Harbors, and Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was inbound to take her place near the unloading hopper at 17:42.
Burns Harbor, IN: Vlieborg remained at Federal Marine Terminals.

Northern Lake Huron Ports – Anonymous
Alpena, MI: With her passengers back on board, cruise ship Viking Octantis departed for Mackinac Island at 18:56. The cement carrier Alpena arrived at 05:33 to load at the Lafarge cement plant and departed at 12:37 for Detroit. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation was inbound and took Alpena’s place at the loading dock.
Stoneport, MI: Olive L. Moore/Menominee departed at 01:55 for Detroit.
Calcite, MI: Manitowoc finished loading limestone at 04:01 and departed for Cleveland, while American Mariner arrived shortly after to load the same cargo.
Port Dolomite, MI: H. Lee White was underway at 00:10 for the Saginaw River. At 2:46, John G. Munson arrived to load limestone.
Drummond Island, MI: Saginaw arrived at 01:34 to load.
Meldrum Bay, ON: Whitefish Bay departed for Windsor at 05:07; Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson arrived to load limestone.
McGregor Bay, ON: Wednesday at 19:37, Samuel de Champlain/Innovation departed for Alpena. 

Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
Lee White was inbound early afternoon and headed up the Saginaw River to unload at the Port Fisher/Bay Aggregates dock in Bay City. This is her first visit of the season.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Saltie Fivelborg cleared at 09:57 in the morning downbound for Montreal. Greenwing arrived at 10:17 to take her spot loading at the elevators, and Algoma Sault backed around from the north pier to load salt at Compass Minerals with tug Cape Discovery assisting. John D. Leitch is still expected next for salt.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
G.L. Ostrander/Integrity, bound for Alpena, cast off from Mistersky and left the Detroit River shortly after midnight. At 01:05, CSL Tadoussac made her way into port and maneuvered up the River Rouge to unload at the St. Marys Cement terminal. The St. Marys facility on the Windsor side of the harbor was serviced by Calumet around 09:04; she made her way across the harbor at 12:45 for fuel at Mistersky before heading back upbound for Stoneport at 18:25. Florence Spirit arrived in the final hour of the day to load at ADM in Windsor.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A departed for Detroit at 12:36. Herbert C. Jackson followed the pair outbound at 17:21.
Toledo, OH: Departures were Manitoulin for Sandusky and Florence Spirit for Windsor. The only arrival was Hon. James L. Oberstar.
Sandusky, OH: Harvest Spirit departed with coal at 03:44; Manitoulin arrived at 19:38.
Cleveland, OH: Federal Baltic arrived at 14:58 and is at Dock 26E to unload wire rods.
Erie, PA: Presque Isle departed for Two Harbors after receiving repairs.
Nanticoke, ON: Federal Sakura arrived at 03:12 to load coils at Stelco, and Edwin H. Gott joined her at the dock to unload ore at 09:08. Algocanada arrived at 05:35 to join Algonorth at Imperial Oil.

Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Loaded down with slag from ArcelorMittal Dofasco, John J. Boland departed at 02:07 for Detroit. Federal Mayumi was inbound 12 hours later to load grain at P&H and would be the last vessel traffic of the day. Rodopi is unloading gypsum at Federal Marine Terminals 12 West, Federal Beaufort is unloading steel at Federal Marine Terminals 14 West, Tundra is discharging urea at Agrico, and Shoveler waits at anchor with a cargo of fertilizer.
