Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Another slow day at the Twin Ports saw only two vessels in port to end the week. Grand River Navigation’s H. Lee White arrived Duluth at 03:39 to load petroleum coke at Midwest Energy; she departed for Charlevoix at 13:54. Later in the evening, Whitefish Bay of Canada Steamship Lines was inbound Superior at 17:00 and tied up at BNSF 5 to load taconite.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Edgar B. Speer departed Two Harbors on Sunday at 09:47 for Conneaut. Presque Isle arrived at 15:07 for north of #2 chute dock where she will likely take on a partial load. At 18:45 Sunday evening, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was NE of Outer Island headed for Two Harbors. Edwin H. Gott is upbound in the mid-St. Marys River also heading for Two Harbors.
Thunder Bay, ON
Perelik departed Thunder Bay Terminals at 16:36 on Saturday after loading potash for Livorno Italy. CSL St-Laurent departed Sunday at 16:09 for Montreal.
St. Marys River
Barge Menominee unloaded limestone for the new Soo Lock project early Monday morning. She and her tug Olive L. Moore were finished and underway downbound by 8 a.m.
Northern Lake Michigan Ports
Port Inland, MI: Arthur M. Anderson departed Saturday at 18:22 for Detroit. American Mariner was inbound the next morning at 06:15 to load limestone.
Charlevoix, MI: Caroline McKee/Commander arrived at the St Marys Cement plant to load Sunday at 00:44, while Prentiss Brown/St Marys Challenger arrived at 04:14 and tied up on the breakwall to wait their turn at the dock. The two tug/barge combos swapped places after the McKee and her barge departed for Chicago at 10:50.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IN: Algoma Sault arrived a few minutes after midnight Sunday for Central Salt, where she spent the first half of the day unloading salt from Goderich. The Sault departed at 11:42 for Thessalon, with Samuel de Champlain/Innovation hot on her heels after discharging cement at Lafarge farther down the river. The tug/barge pair is due next in St. Joseph-Benton.
Indiana Harbor, IN: American Integrity arrived at 02:41 Saturday to discharge ore at Dock 7H. She departed the next morning at 00:42 for another load at Duluth-Superior. After a few days in port shifting between 7H and Mittal West, Joseph L. Block was outbound for Toledo at 01:06 Sunday morning. She is likely bringing excess taconite pellets from Mittal West to the Torco dock.
Burns Harbor, IN: Burns Harbor was inbound Burns Harbor early morning on her usual run and tied up at the Cleveland-Cliffs dock to unload Hibtac ore. Wilfred Sykes joined her at the north end of the dock after unloading limestone at Carmeuse across the slip, and Federal Churchill took her place at Metro Ports at 13:09. Polsteam’s Lubie was inbound at 17:07 for Federal Marine Terminals.
St. Joseph-Benton Harbor, MI: Samuel de Champlain/Innovation entered the St. Joseph River at 17:17 Sunday for Lafarge.
Northern Lake Huron Ports
Port Gypsum, MI: John J. Boland arrived at 03:37 to load gypsum.
Alpena, MI: Sunday at 12:26, G.L. Ostrander/Integrity departed for Milwaukee. Cement carrier Alpena arrived at the Lafarge cement plant to load at 15:07.
Stoneport, MI: After taking on a partial load, Hon. James L. Oberstar departed Saturday at 18:07 for Meldrum Bay. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H Thompson were next inbound to load limestone and departed Sunday at 06:45 for Lorain.
Calcite, MI: Olive L. Moore/Menominee arrived Saturday at 18:31 to load limestone. Herbert C Jackson departed Sunday at 05:03 for Lorain; John G. Munson had been at anchor since 2:10 and took the Jackson’s place at the loading dock. Moore and Menominee departed at 13:39 for Algoma Steel in Sault Ste Marie.
Port Dolomite, MI: Great Republic departed for Duluth-Superior Saturday at 22:19 on their first trip of the season. Kaye E. Barker arrived Sunday morning to load limestone and departed at 11:10 for Grand Haven. Michipicoten arrived next to load.
Bruce Mines, ON: American Courage arrived to load trap rock Sunday at 02:59 and departed at 14:23 for Grand Haven.
Meldrum Bay, ON: Saginaw arrived Saturday and went to anchor at 19:17. Herbert C. Jackson arrived just over two hours later and joined her Canadian counterpart in the anchorage. Algoma Innovator departed for Sarnia Sunday at 04:59, and Saginaw proceeded to the Lafarge quarry dock to load limestone.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Buffalo arrived at 14:36 Sunday and backed into Compass Minerals with tug Ocean A. Gauthier assisting. This is the Buffalo’s second appearance for salt this season. Saltie Greenwing continues loading at the elevators.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Sunday traffic in Detroit began with the arrival of Algoma Buffalo for Mistersky at 02:03. She departed upbound for Goderich at 05:03, and Florence Spirit was outbound Windsor ADM en route to Thunder Bay a few minutes later. The River Rouge saw a pair of vessels arrive mid-morning with Calumet docking at Morton Salt to load and Algoma Transport tying up at the south end of Zug Island. Baie Comeau departed Windsor Salt for Toronto at 14:30, Arthur M. Anderson was inbound at 21:15 to unload limestone at SRM Concrete, and Calumet departed the Rouge at 23:09 for Toledo.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Calumet unloaded at DTE and departed for Detroit at 05:00. Karen Andrie/Endeavor is at the Port of Monroe dock.
Toledo, OH: Manitowoc departed for Green Bay; Whistler is docked at Midwest Terminals.
Marblehead, OH: Sam Laud arrived at 18:47 to load stone at LaFarge.
Cleveland, OH: NACC Capri departed for Bath, ON at 16:01. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is loading salt at Cargill and McKeil Spirit is unloading at Lehigh Cement. Three salties are in port.
Erie, PA: Sam Laud arrived at 00:54 to unload stone at Carmeuse; she departed at 09:14 and headed to Marblehead. The D Ship Carriers saltie Charlie arrived at 10:11 and docked at Carmeuse.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoma Conveyor arrived at 11:14 and went to anchor off of Port Dover. Federal Sakura is at Stelco, and Algocanada is back at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
Defiance/Ashtabula arrived at 14:30 with sand from Brevort, MI for Gateway Metroport in Lackawanna. The cargo was being transferred over to the Canadian Silica wharf by truck due to a partial landslide of the unloading apron still under repair.
Welland Canal – Barry Anderson
McKeil Marine tug Evans McKeil was towed through the Welland Canal Sunday by tug Seahound. She will be scrapped at Port Maitland.
Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Federal Oshima was inbound the Burlington Canal at 01:18 to load grain at G3. A few berths to the south, Kaministiqua topped off with grain at Richardson and departed for Sorel at 04:10. Less than an hour later, Kitikmeot W entered port with a load of UAN and waited at anchor until Tundra left the Agrico dock around 08:00. Tundra swapped places with the tanker and took a layover in the inner harbor before departing for Thunder Bay at 12:29. In the meantime, Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II were inbound for GLS to reportedly enter layup. It is unclear how long the pair may be idled. Lake St. Clair was the last traffic of the day, arriving at 19:46 to join Shoveler at anchor. Mayumi is still loading grain at P&H, while Federal Beaufort and Algoma Guardian are both discharging steel products at Federal Marine Terminals.
