Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algoma Conveyor was inbound Duluth Tuesday morning under a pink sunrise with salt to discharge at EnviroTech-Hallett Dock 8. Michipicoten arrived Superior about 30 minutes later at 05:51 to load Keetac pellets at BNSF 5. She departed at 09:50 after loading for just over three hours. In Duluth, Kiyi cast off from the DECC around 07:00 and departed for Ashland, her survey of the western portion of the lake complete. With the help of Heritage Marine tugs Helen H. and Edward H., the commissioned USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (LCS-21) left her berth at the Port Terminal and departed Duluth for good under the Aerial Lift Bridge at 15:10. The two tugs escorted her out to the lake, where Sea Bear reclaimed a pilot and then left the vessel to her own devices as she begins the long journey to Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Florida. At 16:35, Algoma Conveyor departed Duluth empty en route to Thunder Bay. Exeborg followed her outbound within the hour with a load of beet pulp pellets from Gavilon destined for Casablanca, Morocco. After shifting over to CN Dock 6 from CN-Hallett Dock 5 early in the morning, John G. Munson departed with Minntac pellets for Gary at 21:23. Federal Ruhr remains unloading cement at Ash Grove.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Two Harbors saw the arrival of Walter J. McCarthy Jr. on 05/24 at 14:36. Due after the departure of the McCarthy Jr. is the Edwin H. Gott and after the Gott is the CSL Assiniboine. At 18:00 on 05/24 the Gott was approx. 25 miles NE of Outer Island and the CSL Assiniboine is approx. 35 miles NE of Outer Island. At 18:00 the Great Republic was upbound in the St. Mary’s heading for Two Harbors. It probably won’t arrive until early on 05/26. Departing Cliffs North Shore Mining in Silver Bay on 05/24 was the Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader at 03:43 for Toledo.

Departing the north side of the LS&I dock for Toledo at 04:40 was John J. Boland.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Samuel de Champlain/Innovation departed Lafarge for the St. Joseph River at 04:43 after unloading cement. Caroline McKee/Commander were also outbound after unloading cement at St. Marys; the pair is due next in Charlevoix.
Indiana Harbor, IN: After spending a day at anchor, Baie Comeau was able to proceed inbound for Dock 7H once American Integrity left port at 03:02. The Integrity is headed upbound Lake Michigan en route to Superior. Wilfred Sykes shifted from the old Mittal West facility to just south of 7H at 04:00 before departing for Grand Haven at 06:52. Mesabi Miner arrived mid-afternoon to unload UTAC pellets from Duluth at 7H and tied up directly behind Baie Comeau. Joseph L. Block is still across the harbor at Mittal West.
Gary, IN: Arthur M. Anderson departed for Cedarville at 05:30, with Edgar B. Speer following her outbound 15 minutes later bound for Duluth-Superior.
Burns Harbor, IN: Calumet arrived at 00:07 to load slag at the north end of the Cleveland-Cliffs dock. She was joined at 01:00 by Burns Harbor, who tied up south of her to unload Hibtac ore from Superior. Calumet would depart at 15:52 for Ludington, and Federal St. Laurent was an evening departure for Milwaukee at 21:32. Federal Fraser remains at Metro Ports.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI: Samuel de Champlain/Innovation were inbound at 10:29 for Holcim Cement.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Kaye E. Barker was the first vessel traffic of the day, arriving from Marquette at 02:02 and sailing up the River Rouge with Tilden pellets for Dearborn. Defiance/Ashtabula were inbound for Mistersky at 03:40. Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader made port at 06:52 and tied up at DTE EES Coke, while Whitefish Bay docked at Sterling Fuels just across the river at the same time. The latter would later shift to Windsor Salt in the afternoon. Arriving for the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority’s public dock just after 07:00 was cruise ship Ocean Navigator. Defiance/Ashtabula departed for Stoneport shortly before 08:00, as Hon. James L. Oberstar made her way up the Rouge to join her fleetmate Kaye E. Barker at Dearborn. Manitowoc was the next Mistersky customer at 14:24; she later departed at 17:06 for Bruce Mines. The Barker was outbound at 15:13 for Calcite, John D. Leitch arrived at 19:54 for Mistersky, Ocean Navigator departed for Cleveland at 22:42, and the Leitch cast off for Goderich shortly before midnight to cap off the day. Florence Spirit is still at ADM after arriving in port on May 22, and Federal Bering and Everlast/Norman McLeod are nearby at anchor after dropping the hook mid-evening.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Departures were Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader at 02:50, Alpena for Alpena at 13:40, Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader for Duluth at 18:14, and Gardno for Gibraltar. Still in port are Algoma Transport and Federal Bering.
Kingsville, ON: Cuyahoga left late Monday night for Parry Sound.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder weighed anchor and went to Holcim at 07:43. She loaded stone and departed for Cleveland at 20:47.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara is loading coal for Stelco in Nanticoke.
Cleveland, OH: NACC Argonaut departed at 01:28. Algoma Buffalo arrived at 16:35 to load salt at Cargill. McKeil Spirit arrived at 12:29 to unload at Lehigh Cement.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Manitowoc departed for Bruce Mines at 05:24. Finally ungrounded, American Courage proceeded to the Sidley dock at 12:57 to unload.
Erie, PA: The sandsucker J.S. St. John has activated her AIS and is preparing to go to work on Lake Erie.
Nanticoke, ON: Algonova arrived at Imperial Oil at 06:38. Algocanada departed for Sarnia at 16:00. Federal Clyde was a late night arrival to Stelco.
Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
There were only two vessel passages recorded in Hamilton on Tuesday, May 24, with Captain Henry Jackman departing for Thunder Bay at 01:29 and Algoma Equinox arriving at 03:05 to take her fleetmate’s place unloading ore at ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Lyulin is loading grain at P&H; Vectis Pride is unloading steel at Federal Marine Terminals; Federal Alster is taking on grain at Richardson; and Edenborg, Harbour Progress, Maria G, and Federal Hunter are all at anchor in the inner harbor.
