Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Late Saturday night at 22:14, CSL Tadoussac departed Superior after loading 29,000 tons of Keetac at BNSF Dock 5. On what has been a common route for her so far this season, the Tad will be delivering her cargo to Stelco’s Lake Erie Works in Nanticoke. Mesabi Miner was outbound Duluth at 03:59 Sunday morning with taconite for an unknown destination. It is likely she is headed for Indiana Harbor based on her previous loads at CN Dock 6 this year. Scheduled to load taconite in Two Harbors, 1,000-foot integrated tug/barge Presque Isle would up arriving Duluth at 07:55 to take a delay at the Duluth Port Terminal’s Berth 1. There was no traffic in the harbor until the footer departed for her original destination at 13:35. About an hour later, frequent visitor Burns Harbor was inbound the Superior Entry for taconite at BNSF. Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived under the Aerial Lift Bridge at 16:08 with a split load of limestone and dolomite for CN-Hallett Dock 5. After unloading, she is expected to depart for Marquette. At 20:45, the Twin Ports received its first load of cement this season as Samuel de Champlain/Innovation were inbound Duluth at 20:45 for Lafarge Superior. While classic steamer Alpena has been on the route to Superior for years, last season saw tug/barges Samuel de Champlain/Innovation and G.L. Ostrander/Integrity make nearly all deliveries to the port. It appears that trend may continue in 2022. John G. Munson arrived Duluth with limestone for CN-Hallett Dock 5 at 22:46, joining the Oberstar at the dock. Lee A. Tregurtha is still at Fraser Shipyards with an unknown departure time.
