Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Burns Harbor was a late-night departure from Superior at 23:37 Sunday, headed on her usual run to her namesake port with 60,000 tons of Hibtac pellets. The anchored Manitoulin got underway shortly thereafter and made her way through the piers one minute after midnight. After turning around in Allouez Bay and backing under the shiploader at BNSF Dock 5, she started loading 23,000 tons of Keetac pellets into her holds. Cruise ship Viking Octantis made her second trip to the Twin Ports at 05:49, arriving via the Duluth Ship Canal in considerably better conditions than her last visit on a foggy May morning. She took up her position for the day in the inner harbor while her tenders shuttled passengers ashore at the DECC. At 07:03, Hon. James L. Oberstar departed empty for Marquette after delivering a split cargo of limestone and dolomite to CN-Hallett Dock 5. Manitoulin departed the Superior side of the harbor bound for the Soo at 07:52, allowing the 1,000-foot Indiana Harbor to weigh anchor and proceed inbound to load at 08:32. Her belly full of 23,000 tons of petroleum coke, Federal Delta closed her folding hatches at SMET and made her way outbound Duluth at 16:53. She is due next in Montreal, at which point she will likely begin the long journey overseas. Viking Octantis’ twin tenders were hoisted back on board in the early evening before the cruise ship departed for Bayfield at 18:41. Edgar B. Speer and Presque Isle remain in port receiving mechanical repairs.
