Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Before the clock switched to Wednesday morning, H. Lee White slipped into Duluth at 23:25 with a load of limestone destined for the Graymont Superior plant. She had picked up the aggregate cargo in Port Inland. Hump day traffic began at 03:22 when John G. Munson arrived with dolomite loaded in Port Dolomite for CN-Hallett Dock 5. The White would finish unloading at 08:30, at which point she proceeded back up the harbor basin to take on fuel at Calumet. She tied up just behind the Edgar B. Speer, still undergoing mechanical repairs at Berth 4. Atlantic Huron bid farewell to the Twin Ports when she departed the Superior Entry at 10:04 carrying 27,000 tons of Hibtac pellets for Nanticoke. Tug/barge combo Victory/Maumee arrived from anchor just over 20 minutes later to fill the vacancy at BNSF Dock 5. Paul R. Tregurtha was simultaneously inbound on the Duluth side of the harbor, where she backed under the Blatnik Bridge and tied up at SMET to load coal. H. Lee White was soon underway from Calumet, arriving the Engridge dock to take a delay around noon. She is due next for iron ore pellets at BNSF. An empty John G. Munson was pulling away from Hallett 5 at the same time; the classic laker made the short trip over to CN Dock 6 to load Minntac at both the gravity dock and shiploader. Victory pushed Maumee outbound Superior at 16:11 after taking on 23,000 tons of Keetac pellets in under six hours. The pair is headed to Algoma Steel at the Soo to deliver their cargo. Whitefish Bay, anchored off the piers since around 02:00 Wednesday morning, wasted no time tying up at the dock herself. James R. Barker anchored off the Duluth piers around 17:00, awaiting the Munson’s departure from CN. Sadly, boat fans would have to wait until Thursday to hear the Barker Bark. Rounding out the day was Paul R. Tregurtha, departing Duluth with a split load for St. Clair and Monroe at 23:34.

Upon receiving news that the Whitefish Bay was preparing to leave BNSF, H. Lee White fired up the engines and got underway from the Enbridge dock at around 07:30 Thursday morning, making the turn south towards Allouez. Whitefish Bay would eventually depart the Superior piers for Nanticoke at 08:00 with 27,000 tons of Hibtac pellets; the White tied up at the dock shortly afterward to load. She would take on 4,000 tons less than the dock’s previous visitor and Keetac pellets rather than Hibtac product. Of note, BNSF Dock 5 is the fourth berth the White has occupied during her two-day stay in port. Action was soon taking place on the Duluth side of the harbor with John G. Munson departing with Minntac for Gary at 08:11. James R. Barker weighed anchor and immediately proceeded inbound for a now-empty CN Dock 6 to load ore. H. Lee White departed Superior for the Soo at 16:25, and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader came off the lake just over an hour later to go under the loaders at BNSF. Federal Caribou remains anchored off the Duluth Entry; she was originally estimated to arrive as early as Thursday morning, but that window has now been pushed back to as late as July 5. Presque Isle is in for repairs at Fraser in what appears will be a lengthy stay in port.
