Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Originally scheduled to arrive for wheat at Riverland Ag in the early morning, Polsteam saltie Lubie went to anchor at 07:00 just off the Duluth piers to undergo standard inspections. Her ETA was reported as Monday evening, but this was eventually pushed back 24 hours. She is still scheduled to begin loading on the 13th. American Century was outbound Superior at 10:28 for Burns Harbor, after which the CSL Tadoussac weighed anchor and proceeded inbound to load at BNSF as a summer storm hit the Twin Ports area. Rain, however, would not stop the arrival of the mighty Wilfred Sykes, nor her fans from lining the Duluth Ship Canal to greet her. The classic steamer was inbound the piers at 16:00 with an aggregate cargo for Graymont and a great master’s salute for the boat watchers. The Sykes is expected to shift elsewhere in the harbor to load after discharging her current cargo. After closely following the Sykes on the pair’s journey across the Lake Superior, the Walter J. McCarthy Jr. dropped anchor off the Superior Entry to wait for the Tadoussac to finish loading. Paul R. Tregurtha made port at 19:14, turned around in the harbor basin, and backed under the Blatnik Bridge for coal and petroleum coke at SMET.

The saltwater ship Gwen arrived from Erie, PA for the Gateway Metroport with the second half of a split load of windmill parts at 11:45 pm on the 8th. They went to anchor just South of the Safe Water Beacon to wait for another salty to arrive first. The Keith was upbound in the Welland Canal at the time and also on her way to Lackawanna. On the afternoon of the 9th, the Keith came in first with the Vermont at 2PM and once she was secure, the tug went out to assist the Gwen in behind her at the Main Dock inside the Lackawanna Canal. Another ship full of windmill parts showed up on the 11th but with two in port already, they ended up in the Port Colborne Anchorage. This one was named Charlie and cleared the Welland Canal around 11:35 am before dropping the hooks to wait it out.
