Calumet Harbor, IL – Peter Minten
There is a rather unique situation in Calumet Harbour with 2 Wagenborg ships moored behind each other. This is not unusual for Wagenborg given the fact they manage more than 200 ships. But these 2 are very special ships. The Maxima is named after the current Queen of The Netherlands. Beatrix is named after the previous Queen of The Netherlands and the mother of the current King of The Netherlands.

Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
Canadian Silica’s sand wharf was finally ready for a load of sand when the big ATB Defiance – Ashtabula arrived on July 23rd around 2AM. The barge placed her product around the South end of the unloading apron, carefully avoiding the area where the land slide had occurred. Dredging and underwater shore line work had recently been completed and soundings taken to ensure safe passage off the property, so the Ashtabula had no issues with accessing the channel. The land slide area remained a jumble of mud, plowed up sand, and big rocks. The unload was all done by 12 noon and they were then towed out stern first for the lake by the Vermont. The tug helped them wind in the Outer Harbor and they departed for Cedarville under the gathering gloom that afternoon.
Brattensborg continues to be unloaded of her windmill cargo at Gateway Metroport in Lackawanna.
Next up will be the Thomas Morrish with work equipment for either dredging or breakwall repair, which ever comes first.
