Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Arthur M. Anderson arrived Duluth at 06:27 Sunday morning with an unusual load of eastern coal from Chicago. She would discharge her cargo at Graymont, fittingly on the eastern side of the dock. Great Lakes Fleet’s venerable steamer would back out of her berth at 17:25 and head for West Duluth, where she is currently loading blast furnace trim at CN-Hallett Dock 5. Radcliffe R. Latimer departed with petroleum coke from SMET at 08:12, scheduled for delivery in Port-Daniel, while Nanticoke-bound Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin was outbound the Superior Entry at 09:50 with 30,000 tons of Keetac pellets. Salties galore in the Twin Ports continued when Heerengracht arrived at 14:50 with mining equipment to offload at Clure Public Marine Terminal Berth 1. She is now the fifth such vessel at port: Federal Kushiro is just north of her at Berth 2 unloading barite, Federal Churchill is to the east discharging cement at Ash Grove, Iryda is loading agricultural products at Gavilon, and Maxima waits for a berth at anchor out in the lake. In preparation for the Two Harbors Festival of Sail on August 4, tall ship Pride of Baltimore II was inbound Superior at 20:35 and went to anchor between the breakwaters. Mesabi Miner departed Duluth at 21:04 with ore from CN Dock 6, once again bound for Indiana Harbor.

St. Marys River – Roger LeLievre
Great Lakes Fleet’s steamer Philip R. Clarke made her first upbound locks passage in two years Sunday in the early afternoon. She has been laid up at Toledo. Also at around noon, three tall ships – St. Lawrence II, Brig Niagara and Inland Seas – all locked up in the same MacArthur Lock lockage, along with two tour boats. The 1,000-foot American Century in the Poe Lock provided a contrast in sizes.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: A period of several days of inactivity was once again followed by a busy day in South Chicago. Baie Comeau arrived at 01:04 for Morton Salt, while ATBs Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson and Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 were inbound for Middle River Marine close behind one another at 08:08 and 09:14, respectively. The Comeau was the first in and first out, backing out the mouth of the Calumet River at 11:48 before spinning in the basin and getting underway for Superior. Undaunted and her barge were next to leave at 18:58, due next in Marinette, while the VanEnkevort/Thompson combo would remain in the confines of the river until shortly after 23:00. They are expected Monday in Meldrum Bay. 20 minutes later, Caroline McKee/Commander were inbound the breakwater to begin the long journey down the Calumet to St. Marys Cement.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Wilfred Sykes departed at 12:42 for Muskegon from Cleveland-Cliffs Indiana Harbor West, likely with a load of slag.
Gary, IN: Edwin H. Gott was outbound at 00:28 for Two Harbors.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
As Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader were outbound Detroit for Marquette at 01:37, the upbound Manitowoc took the pair’s berth at Mistersky to fuel before departing herself at 03:36. She is due next in Manistee. Shortly after 07:30, Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived with a full load of Tilden pellets from Marquette’s LS&I ore dock; the former Shenango II and Charles M. Beeghly meandered up the River Rouge to unload at the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works before departing for Calcite at 18:45. Canada Steamship Lines’ bulker Oakglen tied up at Mistersky soon after the Oberstar made port and fueled before getting underway for Two Harbors around noon. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived for Mistersky at 14:16, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was inbound for the same berth at 16:11 as the Brown/Challenger pair departed for Charlevoix, and Thunder Bay made her way to Sterling Fuels in Windsor at around the same time. The CSL newbuild shifted south to Windsor Salt around 19:00, while the ASC footer continued upbound for Duluth at 19:43. In the meantime, G.L. Ostrander/Integrity pulled up at Holcim after an 18:47 Detroit River passage. Saginaw remains at ADM.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Departures were Sarah Andrie for Burns Harbor, Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger for Charlevoix, Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader for Marquette, Federal Yukon for Montreal and Manitowoc for Manistee. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived at 10:49. She unloaded salt and left for Marblehead at 18:40.
Marblehead, OH: Cuyahoga arrived at 06:13 to load stone at Holcim. She departed for Kingsville at 13:18.
Kingsville, ON: Cuyahoga arrived at Southwestern Sales Co. at 17:09.
Sandusky, OH: Florence Spirit departed with coal for Hamilton at 05:53.
Cleveland, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder departed with salt for Toledo at 00:40. Cuyahoga left for Marblehead at 01:48. Calumet arrived at 09:23 and unloaded stone at RiverDock. She left for Detroit at 18:23. American Spirit arrived at 13:27 to unload ore at the Bulk Terminal. New York/Double Skin 509A Cuyahoga departed for Marblehead at 01:38.
Conneaut, OH: Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. unloaded ore and departed at 03:17.
Erie, PA: Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 17:33 and unloaded stone at Carmeuse.
Nanticoke, ON: Calumet left for Cleveland late Saturday night. Algoscotia departed for Sept. Iles at 17:29. Algonorth weighed anchor at 16:19 and proceeded to Imperial Oil.
