Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Coming home from the sandbar at 00:27 in the morning with a smashed-in nose – you should have seen the other guy – Atlantic Huron tied up at Superior’s BNSF Dock 5 to load Hibtac pellets. She had been anchored off Minnesota Point since Wednesday afternoon waiting for her fleetmate CSL Assiniboine to depart in the waning minutes of the day. After the sun rose on what would be another beautiful Duluth day, steamer Arthur M. Anderson sailed across the horizon laden with limestone from Calcite. Her destination being CN-Hallett Dock 5, occupied at the time by Hon. James L. Oberstar, the Anderson would perform a loop in the lake while waiting for the Interlake classic to shift just east to the CN Dock 6 shiploader. AMA straightened out and proceeded inbound the piers before 10:00. Later in the afternoon, 1,000-foot Indiana Harbor would copy the Anderson’s technique and then some, performing not one, not two, but three loops while waiting for the Atlantic Huron to clear BNSF. The two vessels would trade places shortly after 14:00 when the Canadian left for Quebec with ore (27,000 tons). Finished unloading, Arthur M. Anderson found herself loading under the chutes at the gravity dock around 19:00.

American Spirit was back for another load alongside the LS&I dock, north side. As usual, she pulled out and spun around partway through the process to ensure an even trim under the chutes.
