Marquette, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
After a multi day wait for gales to lessen on Lake Superior, ships are finally starting to leave the ‘parking lot’ outside the St. Mary’s River and head upbound. That includes the Lee A. Tregurtha, headed to Marquette next, and the Hon. James L. Oberstar, likely headed there after Duluth. The Joyce L. VanEnkevort is now headed up to Silver Bay after orders changed, and will be replaced by the Clyde S. VanEnkevort in a few days’ time. The Herbert C. Jackson was set to go to Marquette and was waiting in that same ‘parking lot’ outside the river, but is now headed down bound on Lake Huron. There is no doubt the wait has caused numerous changes and issues with schedules and perhaps even the ships themselves.
Port Inland, MI – Andrew Meyer
Fall gales have kept most of the southern Lake Michigan ports and the limestone ports fairly quiet.
After waiting out the weather, the little ATB Undaunted and Pere Marquette departed at 1112 Wednesday. That’s been it for the port- Kaye Barker is due from Muskegon. Her arrival was posted for the 19th but weather has kept her in Muskegon since Sunday. Frequent caller Great Republic is due on the 20th, but weather may stave off that arrival time as well.
Souther Lake Michigan Ports – Andrew Meyer
Chicago, IL: Wednesday saw the Caroline McKee leaving port on her regular Charlevoix route at 0657. Algoma Intrepid arrived in the area mid afternoon, and made her way up the Calumet River, finally reaching her destination around 1630. GL Ostrander and Federal Yukina are still in port.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Despite neighboring Burns Harbor being devoid of traffic, the American Integrity and Wilfred Sykes both flirted with an angry Lake Michigan and made port at 0711 and 1701, respectively, on Wednesday. Walter J. McCarthy Jr has opted to stay in port since her Monday arrival for the weather to subside, unless some other issue is keeping her in port. John D. Leitch is due to arrive sometime toward the end of the week.
Gary, IN: Taking the long way south, the Philip R. Clarke and Edgar B. Speer are several days late for their appointments with Gary Works but should arrive overnight Wednesday-Thursday. The Clarke is moving at 6 knots and the Speer at double that at the time of this writing, so both might arrive at roughly the same time despite being some distance apart. Presque Isle is expected later this week.
Burns Harbor, IN: No arrivals or departures have been logged in the last two days. Burns Harbor and Michigan Trader/Dirk VanEnkevort are due on Thursday. Joseph L. Block is due later in the week.
Muskegon, MI – Oggdo Bogdo

While we do not currently have daily write-ups for the following ports, their respective port authority websites post schedules of vessel traffic that are embedded below. Each schedule takes the form of a miniature webpage within a box – scroll with your cursor within the box (or slide your finger within the box on a mobile device) to move through the schedule as you would a normal webpage. To move up or down the actual Port Reports page itself, make sure your cursor/finger is outside of the box.
