Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
After delivering steel from Antwerp, Belgium, Federal Nagara cleared for Toledo late Sunday (11/20). Taking her place at the Federal Marine Terminals dock was Federal Champlain, which arrived off Milwaukee last Tuesday (11/15) and went to anchor waiting for space. She brings steel from IJmuiden, Netherlands. Research Vessel Lake Guardian should return from Sturgeon Bay Tuesday afternoon. Algoma Innovator is expected Wednesday morning with more salt from Goderich, Ontario.
Some may have noticed a second vessel anchored in Milwaukee Bay last Saturday (11/19). That would have been M/V Manitowoc, which was carrying stone for Grand Haven, Michigan. She anchored off Milwaukee while waiting for conditions to improve across the Lake.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Andrew Meyer
Calumet Harbor, IL: Monday saw the arrival of the Egbert Wagenborg at 0447. The unique vessel arrived from Port Colborne, and is certainly one that has garnered some attention. Caroline McKee departed at 1618 Monday. Fuldaborg left Tuesday for Windsor midmorning.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Manitowoc arrived at 0422 Monday. A fairly infrequent arrival for the Manitowoc, she’d spend the entire day in town before leaving around 2300 hours. Mesabi Miner made her arrival at 1524 on Tuesday, bringing another load of ore for the southern Indiana port.
Gary, IN: CSL Assiniboine departed at 0341 Monday morning, ending a trip that was definitely a more unusual port call for the ship. Walter J. McCarthy would arrive at 1030 on Tuesday. With the Great Lakes Fleet apparently working the lower lakes right now, it’s been a little quiet for Gary during the last week or so. Presque Isle is due to arrive later this week.
Burns Harbor, IN: James R. Barker departed late Monday night for the northland once again. Federal Biscay also ended her stay in port, albeit one that lasted 8 days longer than the Barker. Wilfred Sykes is due to sneak in on Wednesday, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Muskegon, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
It was a nice day of traffic for Muskegon on Tuesday; the Great Republic arrived at 13:25, unloaded stone from Calcite, then departed for Calcite again at 23:07. Soon after the Great Republic was gone, the steamer Alpena arrived at 23:35 from its namesake port to unload cement at LaFarge.
Drummond Island, MI – Andrew Meyer
Cuyahoga arrived on Sunday at 0125. Her turnaround would last about a standard 12ish hours with a 1416 departure.
Calcite, MI – Andrew Meyer
Calcite has continued to crank out the ships, unlike her counterpart ports of Port Inland and Drummond Island. The Great Republic departed at 1214 on Monday after spending the night in port. The H. Lee White was back in town at 0042 Monday morning. The Rand vessel would spend the whole day in Calcite and would depart around suppertime. Classic Kaye Barker had a similar pattern, with an early morning arrival Tuesday and an evening departure the same day. Her destination is Buffington.
