Unless where otherwise noted, port and vessel activity from November 30, 2022. Please send future port reports to news@boatnerd.net.

Marquette, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Kaye E. Barker left the dock in the early morning on Wednesday, but wisely chose to stay within the confines of the port. Winds upwards of 45-50 mph have brought Great Lakes shipping traffic to a screeching halt in many areas. As for the future, the Lee A. Tregurtha is still on her way.

Milwaukee, WI – Jeremy Whitman
A windy day in Milwaukee saw three different ships in and around port.

After spending most of Tuesday near Racine the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw anchored in Milwaukee’s outer harbor where she remained until late Wednesday afternoon. The Mackinaw is carrying a load of Christmas Trees bound for Chicago’s Navy Pier.

The Federal Kivalina remained moored in the outer harbor where it is continuing to unload steel coil.

The Tug Prentiss Brown and Barge St. Mary’s Challenger remained at the St. Mary’s dock waiting out the wind after finishing its unload of cement.

Alpena, MI – Jason Luther
It was a relatively quick turn around trip for the steamer Alpena at LaFarge today. Fighting traffic to get into Thunder Bay, as other ships were hugging the east coast of Michigan due to late November gales, Alpena arrived at 11:47 from Detroit, and departed 6:48 again, for Detroit. H. Lee White is on the hook in Thunder Bay for the evening, on their way to Spragge.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 is in port loading synthetic gypsum.
Sandusky, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula is anchored.
Cleveland, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader is at the Buk Terminal. She unloaded 33,000 tons of Tilden pellets. Mesabi Miner is anchored in Lake Erie, Mark W. Barker is at Cargill, Peyton Lynn C and Flevoborg are at the Port and American Courage is at Cliffs. All boats are waiting out weather.
Nanticoke, OH: CSL Niagara and Harbour Fountain are anchored off of Port Dover. CSL St. Laurent and Algocanada have anchored there as well.

While we do not currently have daily write-ups for the following ports, their respective port authority websites post schedules of vessel traffic that are embedded below. Each schedule takes the form of a miniature webpage within a box – scroll with your cursor within the box (or slide your finger within the box on a mobile device) to move through the schedule as you would a normal webpage. To move up or down the actual Port Reports page itself, make sure your cursor/finger is outside of the box.
