After arriving overnight for light ice breaking duty, tug Manitou did just that this morning for the ATB Samuel De Champlain/Innovation which made a quick turn around at LaFarge before heading to Detroit at 8:40. Alpena has been an early winter station for ice breaking for Manitou during the past several years. Right on Sammy D’s heels was the Steamer Alpena, inbound from a blizzard fighting trip from Superior, again loading cement and departing 14:30 for Essexville. Manitou is on stand-by in Saginaw Bay, ostensibly for Alpena’s arrival.
