USCGC Spar is expected to begin conducting ice operations in the harbor this week.

Calumet Harbor, IL – Joshua Hebeisen
On Sunday, Algoma Innovator brought in what is expected to be South Chicago, IL’s last salt delivery for the 2022–2023 season before the opening of the lock gates resets the count later this month. Arriving at 07:05, the laker backed her way down the Calumet River for the export dock and unloaded for the remainder of daylight hours. Her 20:21 departure was assisted by G-tug Massachusetts, as was the arrival. The Innovator’s AIS destination has yet to be updated as of late Sunday night, though a brief winter lay-up might be on deck for the vessel and her crew.

Meldrum Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
CCGS Samuel Risley departed the area for Sarnia, ON, at 15:45 after spending a few days breaking ice in the North Channel. Her partner CCGS Judy LaMarsh still appears to be anchored off Manitoulin Island.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Conveyor cleared 10:52 Sunday downbound with salt.

Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
A bit of an audible groan could be heard coming from the Sarnia Government Dock on Sunday afternoon as Algoma Intrepid’s days of solitary peace and quiet at her berth came to an end. Cousin Algoma Conveyor — always a bit of a dockside chatterbox — tied up for lay-up none other than right alongside the Intrepid (much to the latter’s dismay), her rivets practically bursting with exciting stories to tell from her winter travels. Alas, no rest will come for poor Intrepid in her last few weeks at the wall.

The Conveyor, for her part, is finally getting a much-deserved break from her winter salt runs after picking up one last load at Goderich, ON. The cargo will presumably be stored for the winter in her holds, a particularly unusual move for salt. Grain typically makes up the majority of winter storage cargoes.

Algosea and Iver Bright remained stationary farther down the river.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
New York/Double Skin 509A officially arrived Detroit from anchorage off Windsor Salt at 08:58. The pair made their way up the River Rouge to Marathon, where they remain as of Sunday night.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Nanticoke, ON: Algonova departed with gasoline for Milwaukee, WI. Algoterra is loading at Imperial Oil and Harvest Spirit is at Stelco loading steel coils.
