St. Marys River – Joshua Hebeisen
Unfazed by the shuttered Soo Locks, McKeil Marine is wasting no time getting steel coils moving across the lakes. Leonard M/Huron Spirit already visited port just in the past few weeks, and Friday would see the fleet’s versatile Harvest Spirit arrive at 12:39. The Spirit, like her tug/barge fleetmates, would tie up at Purvis Marine to load coils from Algoma Steel above the locks. The product is reportedly shipped down from the mill via truck. USCGC Mackinaw would clear a path for the vessel in the lower St. Marys River before heading back for home in Cheboygan, MI.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Innovator cleared Milwaukee, destined for Owen Sound for a short layup. In the 2021-2022 season, Goderich hosted 232 Great Lake vessels. 2022-2023 season Goderich hosted 224 Great Lake vessels.
Cheboygan, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algonova arrived from Milwaukee, WI, at 17:03 to unload petroleum products at U.S. Oil. USCGC Mackinaw headed inbound for her cozy Coastie dock an hour later.
Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
With the Coast Guard party in the St. Marys River all but a memory, USCGC Hollyhock returned to her station in Port Huron at 07:20. Algotera and Iver Bright remain along the Canadian side of the river.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
After a busy day yesterday, it’s quite the opposite on Lake Erie today (March 10). The only movement was the tanker Algocanada, departing Imperial Oil in Nanticoke with gasoline for Green Bay, WI. Algosea is at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The DS-509A was all set with their unloading operation at Suite Kote in Tonawanda by 8:20 AM on the 10th so the NEW YORK took her out for the lake. They made it up to Buffalo Harbor at 10:40 AM and went to anchor off the breakwall until a passing snow storm cleared up.
Port Colborne, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Now that Ojibway has been reduced to shreds of metal on the ground, vintage steamer S.T. Crapo has been pulled ashore at MRC for her own turn with the torch. Dismantling should begin shortly on the 1927-built cement carrier.
