St. Marys River – Know Your Ships
CCGS Judy LaMarsh departed Sault Ste. Marie, ON, at 11:37, bound for Collingwood, ON, to continue her winter duties. Harvest Spirit remains on the same side of the river loading steel coils at Purvis Marine.
St. Ignace, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Leaving her dock late morning, USCGC Biscayne Bay briefly broke up ice in the Straits of Mackinac before returning a short time later.
Cheboygan, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algonova cleared at 08:45 for Sarnia, ON, after unloading at U.S. Oil.
Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After no port calls in Sarnia for a couple of days, CCGS Samuel Risley broke the cold spell (and the ice) with an 08:37 departure from the Government Dock. She was headed down the St. Clair River for Windsor, ON, and the picturesque Dieppe Gardens. Following in the cutter’s wake, asphalt/bitumen tanker Iver Bright left Suncor around 10:15 and set a course downbound for Detroit, MI. Fellow tanker Algocanada was headed in the opposite direction on the river and would arrive Sarnia later in the afternoon, first tying up at the specialty products dock and soon shifting a bit north for the Government Dock. Her fleetmate Algoterra remains at the lower dock.

USCGC Morro Bay departed at 13:13 for the St. Marys River.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
The 2022–2023 cement trade has officially begun with the departure of Samuel de Champlain/Innovation from Holcim just before 07:00. Looking a little different this year with dark blue highlights on the tug and a new logo printed on her barge, the pair is headed for Essexville, MI, to handle their first cement cargo of the season. Iver Bright would also move through the Motor City on Saturday with a 16:00 trip to Shell at the mouth of the River Rouge. Across the border, CCGS Samuel Risley pulled up to the Dieppe Gardens early afternoon for an overnight stay.
Amherstburg, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
CCGS Griffon left after noon to break ice at the mouth of the Detroit River, returning about 3 hours later at 16:30.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
New York/Double Skin 509A departed Tonawanda, NY and headed to Detroit, MI. Algosea loaded petroleum products and left Nanticoke for Sarnia, ON.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The weather had calmed down by the morning of March 11, so the tug NEW YORK got underway with the DS509A around 6AM. They pulled up the hooks and departed their anchorage off Buffalo bound for Marathon in Detroit.
