St. Marys River – Joshua Hebeisen
Thursday, March 16 saw USCGC Morro Bay depart U.S. Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie just after 08:00. She would take over for sister USCGC Biscayne Bay in the Lime Island area after the latter headed out for St. Ignace, MI, earlier in the morning.
Friday began in similar fashion with a Bay-class icebreaker leaving the Soo — this time USCGC Katmai Bay — to offer up her icebreaking services farther down the upbound passage. She and Morro would later assist Algonova up the river for an eventual docking at Purvis Marine, where the tanker will spend a few days unloading petroleum products from Nanticoke, ON. USCGC Mackinaw arrived on the scene in the early evening and joined Katmai and Morro for an overnight stay at Lime Island.
St. Ignace, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
USCGC Biscayne Bay arrived U.S. Coast Guard Station St. Ignace at 13:47 Thursday.
Green Bay, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algocanada, the port’s first visitor of the season, departed at 07:19 Thursday morning after discharging petroleum products at U.S. Oil. She set course for Cheboygan, MI, to pay a visit to another of the company’s Lake Michigan facilities.
Sturgeon Bay, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
After breaking ice out in Green Bay, USCGC Neah Bay arrived at 14:25 Thursday for a break just across the channel from Bay Shipbuilding. As for the larger vessels standing by in port, we should start seeing the season’s first movement any day now.
Calumet Harbor, IL – Joshua Hebeisen
Samuel de Champlain/Innovation are at Holcim following a Wednesday, March 15 arrival.
Mackinaw City, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
USCGC Mackinaw (WLBB-30) bid farewell to her WAGB-83 counterpart at 10:34 Friday for a trip to the St. Marys River. Unlike her retired friend, she has work to do!
Cheboygan, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Friday saw tanker Algocanda pay a visit midmorning with petroleum products to discharge at U.S. Oil.
Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
A boring Thursday was spiced up on Friday with the arrivals of Iver Bright and Algosea. The two tankers arrived at 03:55 and 14:25 for Suncor and Imperial Oil, respectively.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
The only traffic since the last report occurred on Thursday, beginning with a CCGS Samuel Risley Dieppe Gardens departure around 11:00. The veteran Canadian Coast Guard member is due in Midland, ON, before the end of the week. Harvest Spirit arrived from the Soo at 17:13 with steel coils to discharge at Nicholson Detroit, and Iver Bright later cleared upbound just before 23:00 after discharging product at Mistersky.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A is still at the Port dock.
Toledo, OH: Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader arrived from Cleveland and is at CSX.
Cleveland, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is still loading shuttles. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson is making preparations to depart layup soon.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra departed Imperial Oil with petroleum products for Sarnia, ON.
