Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
The Arthur M. Anderson was stopped in the lake for 2 days before getting the dock. She arrived on 4/25 at 11:09 and departed the same date at 21:25 for Gary Works. The Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived Two Harbors 4/25 at 22:02.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader finally departed for Toledo at 06:31. It was 19:10 before the spot adjacent to the Lee A. Tregurtha’s was taken by fleet mate Kaye E. Barker, which had a much smoother go of things on arrival.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
Wednesday was a great day in the Harbor as we saw the freighter Manitowoc arrive with a load of stone for Rieth-Riley Construction’s Central Dock. This limestone, totaling over 15,000 tons, was brought down from Port Inland, Michigan. It will be used in a paving project at South Bend International Airport!! Since Rieth-Riley does a variety of paving and construction projects all over Michigan and Indiana, Central Dock is a strategic facility to receive, store and ship material to build and maintain our regional infrastructure.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Innovator arrived at 04:35 Wednesday to load at Compass Minerals.
Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
Candace Elise/Robert F. Deegan were inbound on the Saginaw River on April 25, headed for the Port Fisher Terminals Dock in Bay City. The pair arrived from Ludington to unload Calcium Chloride.
St. Clair River – Detroit River – Joshua Hebeisen
Hearkening back to the age of the steamer long since passed, S/S Keewatin made a highly-anticipated transit of the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers while under tow to Lake Erie and a new life. With McKeil Marine tug Molly M1 gently leading the way, Keewatin came off Lake Huron for the final time Wednesday morning and passed beneath the Blue Water Bridge just before noon, assisted from behind by local tug Manitou. Her classic lines, distinctive smokestack, and Edwardian grandiose were met with much fanfare from boat fans along both shores eagerly awaiting the steamer’s once-in-a-lifetime passage.
The tow cleared the Motor City before midnight, with Manitou bidding farewell along the shores of Lake Erie to return home. Next up for Keewatin and her escort is a journey across the big lake and up the Welland Canal to Hamilton, ON, where the dry dock awaits. The steamer is expected to arrive at her new home of Kingston, ON, before the end of the year, where she will serve as the centerpiece of the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes for decades — and maybe even another century — to come.

Monroe, MI: American Courage unloaded at DTE, then left for Cleveland.
Toledo, OH: Departures were CSL Niagara to Hamilton, ON, Cuyahoga to Marblehead, Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader to Silver Bay, MN, Manitoulin to Sault Ste. Marie and Herbert C. Jackson to Detroit. Federal Seto is at Midwest Terminals.
Marblehead, OH: Sam Laud departed with stone for Detroit, then Cuyahoga arrived to load at Holcim. Anchoring in Lake Erie is Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder.
Sandusky, OH: Algoma Conveyor finally arrived at Norfolk Southern to load coal.
Lorain, OH: Finished with her maintenance, John J. Boland departed for the Twin Ports of Duluth/Superior.
Cleveland, OH: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson delivered to the Cliffs stone dock on the Cuyahoga River.
Fairport Harbor, OH: CSL’s Frontenac arrived to load salt at Morton.
Ashtabula, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula is at the Pinney dock.
Conneaut, OH: American Spirit has ore for the P&C Dock.
Buffalo, NY: New York/Double Skin 509A departed for Detroit. Radcliffe R. Latimer left later in the day for Sidney, NS.
Nanticoke, ON: Algosea is at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The New York/DS509A departed Suite Kote in Tonawanda and were clear of the Buffalo piers at 09:00 on the 26th of April. A few hours later, the last piece of the Great Northern elevator, the South Marine Leg Tower, came crashing down under a controlled collapse at 12:15. The property will finally be cleared of debris now from the 1895-built structure, freeing up the space for a possible future new grain storage facility. The Radcliffe R. Latimer departed Gateway Metroport in Lackawanna at 17:00 that afternoon bound for Sydney, NS with her load of coal.
