Port and vessel activity from Friday, May 26, 2023, unless stated otherwise. Please send future port reports to news@boatnerd.net.

Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived Two Harbors on the 25th at 07:47 loading for Conneaut. She departed on the 26th at 04:59. The Edgar B. Speer arrived on the 26th at 05:10. She is possibly loading for Conneaut.

Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Traffic in Thunder Bay was over and done with the sun on Friday morning. Algoma Conveyor arrived at 04:49 to load at Viterra B, and big blue saltie BBC Manila followed her in a little over 20 minutes later to discharge wind turbine blades at Keefer Terminal. While activity through the breakwaters was quiet for the remainder of the day, a full harbor included Viking Octantis lounging by the cruise ship dock, Oborishte loading across from the Conveyor at Viterra A, and Fraserborg finishing up her load at P&H. Tug Glenada appeared to be headed the Fraserborg’s way at midnight to assist with an early morning departure. Iryda is at anchor out in the lake; she will likely proceed to either P&H or one of the Viterra elevators after their current occupants depart.

St. Marys River – Graham Grattan
Hanseatic Inspiration departed the Purvis Dock in Soo, ON, at noon Friday. She stemmed the current and ‘crabbed’ across the river to the U.S. side. H. Lee White was tied at the end of the Poe Lock wall. Victory/barge Maumee were coming out of the Poe Lock. Hanseatic Inspiration and Victory/Maumee met on two whistles. Algoma Sault was killing time in the lower harbor. H. Lee White sounded a salute to Victory which responded in kind. Not to be outdone, Hanseatic Inspiration also sounded a salute. She does have a pleasant-sounding whistle (2-note, maybe 3). Presque Isle and Dirk S. VanEnevort/barge Michigan Trader were downbound in the afternoon. Three tour boats and a construction tug and barge added to the mix.

Holland, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 made an overnight stay on Wednesday and Thursday, arriving at 16:35 and departing at 10:03 on those respective days. Later in the evening on Thursday the river-class Manitowoc arrived from Port Inland at 19:09 to unload stone at Brewer’s City Dock. There are no future arrivals planned, unless you count the Hong Kong vessel De Sheng Hai, which has its countries confused (AIS is meant to be set to the country of Holland).

Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
Algoma Intrepid made another arrival with salt at 16:01 Thursday afternoon, her second such trip in three days. Last season a similar pattern occurred, with the Intrepid’s only four 2022 arrivals coming within a one month window. The Intrepid would eventually depart at 23:25 for Meldrum Bay.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Innovator cleared 15:12 upbound for Milwaukee with salt. Algoma Compass is expected next for salt.

Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
The evening of May 25 saw three tug/barge combos together on the Saginaw River, with Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson outbound, passing Olive L. Moore/Menominee at Wirt Essexville and G.L. Ostrander/Integrity at Holcim Cement.
