Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Philip R. Clarke arrived Two Harbors 05:15 and departed 15:13 for Gary. Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin arrived 10:43 and departed 03:31 for Quebec City. Presque Isle and Edgar B. Speer both due Two Harbors 6/1.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Her newly-repaired prop hard at work churning through the cold waters of Lake Superior, Atlantic Huron is headed down the North Shore en route to Superior, WI, after departing Thunder Bay’s Keefer Terminal late Wednesday night. Her brisk pace averaging 13.5 knots would seem to indicate no troubles so far. The Huron’s holds are undoubtedly growling for some taconite takeout from BNSF Dock 5 in Allouez Bay, though the veteran laker may have to wait for the pesky Burns Harbor to finish loading first.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Early in the morning on Tuesday, at 04:44, Lee A. Tregurtha made yet another ore run arrival. Being such an early bird, she was already gone by noon, leaving for Indiana Harbor at 12:05. Next up would be the American Mariner at 19:23, also on Tuesday. The Mariner departed (likely for the Soo) at 15:40 on Wednesday, completing her first visit of the season after making just a handful of trips last season. Between that arrival and departure was the arrival of the tug/barge combo Victory/Maumee at 08:05, taking the other place at the ore docks. After the Mariner headed back out to the lake, Interlake’s Herbert C. Jackson stopped by at 15:13 to replace her. Finally, Victory/Maumee departed at 21:00 for Toledo, leaving only the Jackson at the dock.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
After delivering cement at the Holcim terminal, GL Ostrander/Integrity headed for Chicago late Monday afternoon. Tug Meredith Ashton pushing barge St. Mary’s Conquest arrived from Charlevoix early Monday afternoon with cement for the Kinnickinnic River terminal. The pair headed back to Charlevoix early Tuesday morning. Canada Steamship Lines’ Whitefish Bay arrived at 02:05 Wednesday with deicing salt from Windsor, Ontario (Morton). She backed into south slip one on the outer harbor, joining Federal Dee, and dropped her cargo on the open dock. Hanseatic Inspiration was still at the South Shore Cruise Dock. She should be departing about 18:00 Wednesday on a 13-day cruise to Windsor/Detroit.
This weekend should be a busy one at the cruise docks. Viking ships Octantis and Polaris are both expected in Milwaukee Friday morning. Ocean Navigator should arrive Saturday morning.
Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
The small but versatile Sam Laud made somewhat of a surprise visit on Tuesday evening, as her AIS was not set to Muskegon even as she lined up to the port entrance. She brought aggregate from Indiana Harbor to unload at Cobb Verplank upon her 20:44 arrival, before departing for Port Inland at 08:55 Wednesday morning. Before the Laud could depart, however, the Algoma Intrepid made yet another visit. This one was her fastest yet, bringing salt to Verplank at 01:50 and departing already at 08:55. Apparently visiting three times in a ten day span makes the routine faster.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Departing were Wilfred Sykes to Burns Harbor, IN and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader to Detroit. Manitoulin is at Kuhlman’s. Kaye E. Barker is still berthed at CSX.
Lorain, OH: H. Lee White delivered 9,000 tons of #10 stone to Carmeuse. Once empty, she departed for Marblehead, arriving early Thursday morning. Calumet is still at Amcor.
Cleveland, OH: First up to arrive was Algoma Buffalo for another load of salt from Cargill. Next in line was Polsteam’s Jamno, going to the Port with steel coils to be unloaded. She’s berthed at Dock 24W. Then ASC footer American Spirit brought in 55,000 tons of UTAC pellets for the Bulk Terminal. Federal Katsura was the final arrival of the day, going to Dock 24E at the Port. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement is unloading and American Courage is on the shuttles. Departures were Algoma Buffalo and, after a quick unload, Jamno to Burns Harbor, IN.
Ashtabula, OH: Elbeborg departed with a destination of Detroit.
Erie, PA: H. Lee White arrived late Tuesday night, unloaded a partial load at Carmeuse, then departed for Lorain, OH.
Buffalo, NY: New York/Double Skin 509A unloaded at Suite Kote in Tonawanda then left for Detroit after getting empty.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra and Kitikmeot W are both loading at Imperial Oil. CSL Niagara unloaded coal at Stelco then departed to Hamilton, ON. Fleetmate CSL Tadoussac unloaded ore at Stelco and Harvest Spirit arrived to load steel coils. CSL Tadoussac departed for Fairport Harbor once empty.
Monroe, MI – Anonymous
Passenger ship Ocean Navigator arrived Wednesday with engine problems. She has 83 passengers on board.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The New York/DS509A departed Suite Kote in Tonawanda at 07:00 on May 31st. They cleared the Buffalo piers around 09:30 and headed up the lake in “push mode” for Marathon in Detroit.
