Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Edwin H. Gott departed at 11:44 on June 4 for Nanticoke. American Spirit arrived at 11:58 on June 4 and departed Two Harbors for Indiana Harbor at 12:44 on June 5.

Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After a nice chat with the visiting Viking Octantis last week, museum ship CCGS Alexander Henry would meet a new friend on Monday as cruise ship Hanseatic Inspiration came to town. The Inspiration arrived at 08:29 and docked at Pool 6 next to the Henry, letting her European 230 passengers off for a day in T-Bay. This is the second of 15 scheduled cruise ship arrivals in Thunder Bay in 2023, a fast-growing industry that has quickly proved to be a boon for the local economy. The Inspiration will account for another of those arrivals in just a few weeks when she returns for a second visit.

“Inspiring” a busy day in port, the cruise ship’s entrance was followed by the arrival of Harvest Spirit for Viterra A at 10:12. Federal Dee departed at 17:48 for the lake after loading at Thunder Bay Terminals; she spent a short stint at anchor before proceeding onwards to Savona, Italy, at 22:15. Algoma Innovator switched places with the Dee-lightful saltie, pulling up the anchor chain and proceeding inbound at 18:28 to take her spot at the dock.

Hanseatic Inspiration eventually cleared at 19:15 for picturesque Battle Island, ON, farther north along the Canadian shore. Again following the cruise ship’s lead, Harvest Spirit would depart at 20:50, only to sail up the bay and reenter at 21:20 for Richardson Main. It is possible that she is taking on a split load. In perfect timing, Iryda had cleared the elevator just minutes earlier, setting course for Montreal, QC. Federal Yukina is on the other side of Richardson loading at the Current River berth.

Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Two familiar faces had similar visits on Monday, starting with the Hon. James L. Oberstar’s 13:10 arrival followed by Victory/Maumee’s at 15:11. The two would depart at somewhat similar times as well, but this time with the tug/barge leaving at 21:28 for Toledo and the Oberstar at 22:04 for Detroit. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader is due soon, as is the cruise vessel Ocean Navigator, back again this summer for a few visits.

Holland, MI – Noah H.
The striped Great Republic departed for Calcite at 00:04, concluding what appears to be her second visit of the year.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A departed with no destination update on AIS, however she’s already in Lake Huron which means a new port of arrival for the Vane Bros. tug and barge.
Toledo, OH: In port are Herbert C. Jackson and Karen Andrie/Endeavor, both at Midwest Terminal. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader unloaded at Ironville and left for Marquette, MI. Defiance/Ashtabula departed for Sault Ste. Marie. Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit was an evening arrival, also berthing at Midwest Terminals.
Kingsville, ON: Tug Ecosse arrived to hook up to Cuyahoga and Molly M1 is headed that way. She’ll possibly be towed to Ashtabula for repairs.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived from Cleveland to load stone at Holcim.
Cleveland, OH: Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement has cement for St. Marys Jefferson St. terminal. Algoma Buffalo arrived in the afternoon to load salt at Cargill. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder ran a shuttle then departed for Marblehead once empty. Sharon M1/Huron Spirit arrived to unload steel coils at the Port, Dock 24N.
Nanticoke, ON: CSL Laurentien unloaded at Stelco and departed for Windsor. Atlantic Huron arrived later in the day with ore for Stelco.

Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
CSL Laurentian wrapped up her coal loading operation at Gateway and departed Lackawanna for Nanticoke at 18:30 on the 4th without tug assistance.
