Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
CSL St-Laurent loaded pellets in Two Harbors for Quebec City. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. is upbound from Conneaut for Two Harbors. Edgar B. Speer is in the St. Mary’s River heading for The Gary Works.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Thunder Bay traffic fittingly got over the proverbial hump on Wednesday with a much busier 24 hours in port. Just 22 minutes into the 12th of July, Kaminisitiqua was already inbound for a load of grain destined for Sorel-Tracy, QC. The Kam would pass up a date with her namesake river to the south, instead proceeding to the upper half of the harbor for Richardson Main. At 07:27, saltie Blacky — inexplicably colored green — left Lubie and Federal Nakagawa behind in the anchorage to head inbound on the Mission River. She would venture a short ways up the channel before spinning around and coming back down to MobilEx. Saginaw was inbound 20 minutes later, also on the Mission, though she would come to a stop much sooner at P&H. The classic laker’s load will be destined for Owen Sound, ON, upon departure.
Following a midday break, the action picked right back up at 14:17 with an arrival for newbuild Algoma Harvester. The straight-deck bulk carrier joined Kaministiqua at Richardson, though she would set up shop at the Current River elevator. Blue saltie Eider was the day’s first departure, bidding farewell from Thunder Bay Terminals at 15:37 with an AIS destination of Montreal, QC. Vectis Progress was outbound a short time later for Duluth, MN, after staying overnight at Keefer Terminal. Kaministiqua would eventually vacate Richardson at 19:38, allowing Evans Spirit to arrive and take her spot beneath the spouts. The latter had been at anchor waiting her turn since midafternoon.
The only vessel in port not moving throughout the day was lazy Andean at Keefer Terminal. The aforementioned Lubie and Federal Nakagawa remained out on the lake prepping for their eventual arrivals later this week.
Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
The American Spirit and the Joseph L. Block arrived in Marquette earlier this week. The American Spirit departed early Tuesday, and the Joseph L. Block is at the dock loading. The Maumee was scheduled to arrive as of Wednesday afternoon; however, she is still at the dock on Lake Huron. The Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived early Wednesday morning. The Kaye E. Barker is scheduled for a Friday morning arrival while the Lee A. Tregurtha is due in early Saturday.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Joseph L. Block departed for Indiana Harbor at 14:10, concluding a nearly three-day visit. Her departure leaves only the Hon. James L. Oberstar at the docks. Her fleet mate Kaye E. Barker is due next.
St. Joseph, MI – Michael Moran
The 630-foot vessel Manitowoc made her fourth trip of the season to Central Dock in Benton Harbor with a load of stone from Port Dolomite for Rieth-Riley Construction. This material is one of the ingredients in many asphalt paving mixes used at various Rieth-Riley plants.
Grand Haven, MI – Noah H.
On Tuesday, Caroline McKee/Commander departed from the St. Marys Cement dock at 21:34 to conclude their third visit of the season. They would head to Manitowoc next before returning to Charlevoix. Soon after, Interlake’s (mostly) shiny new boat Mark W. Barker arrived through the Grand Haven channel for the first time ever. Her 22:39 arrival with a load of limestone for Verplank was followed the next morning with a 10:48 departure for Port Inland. Just before that, however, the Algoma Intrepid arrived at 09:20 with salt right in front of the Barker by Verplank. The heavy traffic would end at 19:26 with the Intrepid’s departure.
Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
H. Lee White arrived at 22:05 to unload limestone from Port Inland at Cobb Verplank. it appears to have been their first visit of the season, after making only one trip last season. Hot on their heels was the much older and steamier Alpena, arriving at 22:23 to unload the usual cement at Holcim. The Alpena has been to Muskegon this year a lot more than the White, for those wondering.
Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
Karen Andrie/Endeavor unloaded liquid asphalt and departed to a northern port.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
John D. Leitch arrived to load at CSX then left for Hamilton. The tug and barge Albert/Margaret departed for Cheboygan and Algoma Sault left to Bruce Mines. Herbert C. Jackson remains in dry dock at Ironhead Marine.
Sandusky, OH – Bill Kloss
Manitoulin loaded coal for Algoma Steel at the Soo.
Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
Morning arrivals were cruise ship Ocean Navigator to Dock 28W and Fuldaborg with steel coils and plates to Dock 24E at the Port, Calumet to unload at the Cliffs stone dock and Indiana Harbor with 63,000 tons of UTAC pellets for the Bulk Terminal. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder was supposed to load another shuttle but had a change of orders and loaded salt at Cargill. Still unloading are Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II and the tanker Selenka.
Buffalo, NY – Bill Kloss
Defiance/Ashtabula was a late-night arrival, unloading then departing for Stoneport.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Departing were Algosea to Tracy, PQ, and Edwin H. Gott to Two Harbors, MN. Algocanada arrived to load at Imperial Oil.
