Florence Spirit was up and at ’em on Monday morning, ready for a productive day that would see her go 3/3 in T-Bay’s port calls while taking on a split cargo of grain. The snack-sized Spirit got things started right with the 05:30 sunrise, tying up at Richardson Main bright and early for a breakfast of grain. At noon, the ex-saltie would head outbound the northern breakwaters and arrive down to the south 20 minutes later, where a nice lunch awaited her at Viterra A. The Spirit would remain at the elevators into the night and should depart early Tuesday morning.
Also in port on Monday were Barbro G at P&H and Osogovo at Thunder Bay Terminals. Waiting for the latter to finish up, Algoma Transport joined salties Federal Mosel, Isa, and new arrival Federal Montreal at anchor out in the lake. Sunda joined the crew well after dark.
Yesterday’s report speculated that the Algoma Sault’s load at Viterra A might be destined for Duluth, MN’s newly reactivated Hansen-Mueller Elevator A. As it turned out, kind of… The Sault arrived the Twin Ports on Monday morning and would indeed unload at a Hansen-Mueller berth, but it was the company’s Elevator M in Superior, WI, receiving the cargo of oats instead. This was the first delivery via laker to the elevator since November 2021 when, coincidentally, the Sault herself brought in another hearty cargo of oats from Thunder Bay.
Green Bay, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Algoma’s newest tanker arrived Titletown on Monday morning, and I’m not quite sure what to call her. The vessel may be registered as “Algoberta” and displays that name on her bow in neat white font, but the giant raised lettering screaming “CHIBERTA” below begs to differ. You just can’t take the salt out of a saltie, I suppose.
No matter what you call her, Algoberta/Chiberta was inbound the Fox River at 07:18 with petroleum products from Sarnia, ON. The tanker tied up at U.S. Oil to unload and is expected to remain in port through Wednesday.
Another vessel would grace Green Bay with her presence at 21:48, but there was no mistaking this beauty as the lovely steamer Alpena. As always, she would head down the river for Holcim with cement.

Fednav’s Federal Cedar will be unloading steel coils and plates at Dock 26W and Big Lift’s Happy River is berthed at Dock 24W. American Courage is running the shuttles.
