Thursday, July 20
Great Lakes Fleet classic John G. Munson arrived at 17:45 (Central) with stone from Carmeuse’s Cedarville Operation; after that cargo was unloaded at Hallett Dock 5, the Munson shifted to CN #6 to load iron ore pellets.

Friday, July 21
Queen of the Lakes, Paul R. Tregurtha departed at 14:19 with a mixed load of low sulfur coal and petroleum coke for the Belle River and Monroe DTE Energy plants. John G. Munson later departed at 18:00 with Minntac pellets for Gary Works.

Saturday, July 22
Viking River cruise ship Viking Polaris arrived at 04:35 for a “turn around” stop in port; they spent the day unloading passengers at the end of their journey and loading those who were just starting their journey. It was a quiet day until American Steamship’s Indiana Harbor arrived at 19:29 to load iron ore at CN. Viking Polaris departed under the same bridge lift at 19:43 for Thunder Bay.

Sunday, July 23
Clyde S. VanEnkevort and barge Erie Trader arrived in hazy Duluth at 13:14 carrying limestone from Calcite, Michigan. After the pair docked at C. Reiss, the Clyde detached from the barge to visit Fraser Shipyards for an inspection or repairs. Indiana Harbor departed at 17:54 with UTAC pellets for Cleveland. Federal Montreal ended the day’s commercial traffic, departing at 23:14 empty for Thunder Bay after a long unload at Ash Grove.

Monday, July 24
Interlake’s James R. Barker arrived at 09:17 to load iron ore pellets at the CN #6 shiploader. After spending a day at Fraser Shipyards, Clyde returned to the now-emptied barge at C. Reiss for a quick trip up to Silver Bay; the pair departed at 17:25.

Tuesday, July 25
James R. Barker departed at 08:01 with UTAC pellets for the TORCO dock in Toledo. Steamer Arthur M. Anderson arrived at 12:23 with Holcim limestone from Stoneport intended for C. Reiss. Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived a little later at 13:19 with Port Inland limestone for Graymont. As of Tuesday afternoon, Arthur M. Anderson was unloading at C. Reiss. Philip R. Clarke is expected late Wednesday morning with limestone for Hallett Dock 5, and John G. Munson is expected Wednesday evening for CN #6.

Superior Entry
Friday, July 21
CSL Laurentien arrived in Superior at 01:19 (Central) to load iron ore at BNSF #5. Although the Laurentien was still loading, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived at 15:50 to wait at Lakehead Pipeline for their turn at BNSF.

Saturday, July 22
Canada Steamship’s CSL Laurentien departed at 06:44 Saturday morning with Hibtac high-composition pellets for Quebec City. The McCarthy shifted over to BNSF to load following the Laurentien’s departure.

Sunday, July 23
American Steamship’s Walter J. McCarthy Jr. departed at 05:30 with Keetac pellets for the Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock at Conneaut, OH. Spruceglen arrived at 06:11 to load next; they departed at 21:58 with Hibtac high-composition pellets for Berth 53 in Quebec City. CSL Assiniboine was the entry’s last traffic for the day, arriving at 22:47 for BNSF.

Monday, July 24
Algoma Sault made a surprise arrival from Thunder Bay with oats from Viterra’s No. 7A Pool elevator at 08:53; they unloaded that cargo at Hansen Mueller’s Elevator M in Superior. CSL Assiniboine departed at 13:40 with high-composition Hibtac pellets for Quebec City. Atlantic Huron arrived at 14:05 to load next at BNSF.

Tuesday, July 25
Atlantic Huron departed at 09:53 with Hibtac pellets for Stelco’s Lake Erie Works at Nanticoke. G3 Marquis arrived at 15:34 to load at BNSF. As of Tuesday afternoon, G3 Marquis was loading at BNSF, Algoma Sault was unloading at Elevator M, Hon. James L. Oberstar was unloading at Graymont, and Whitefish Bay was waiting at anchor outside Superior. G3 Marquis is estimated to depart sometime Wednesday morning with iron ore pellets. After Whitefish Bay loads, American Integrity will be the next arrival for BNSF.

A rarity is the Burns Harbor loading in Two Harbors.

An even bigger rarity is the Stewart J. Cort loading in Silver Bay.

Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
With Windsor, ON, waiting to the south, Florence Spirit departed Viterra A with her two-part cargo of grain around midnight Tuesday morning. Osogovo cleared at 03:19 for Montreal, QC, with product from Thunder Bay Terminals, and the aging Algoma Transport arrived from anchor shortly thereafter to load what was likely petroleum coke. Traffic would continue in the daylight with a CSL St-Laurent arrival at 11:00 sharp; the muraled marvel went to Viterra A for grain. The Transport would later head outbound for Detroit, MI, at 15:45, and saltie Sunda came in from the lake at 17:17 to take her place.

Barbro G continued her stay at P&H loading for Sorel-Tracy, QC, while Polsteam’s Isa is surrounded by Fednav’s Federal Mosel, Federal Montreal, and Federal Kumano out in the anchorage. The latter joined her fleetmates midafternoon.

Manistee, MI – Chris Franckowiak
Manitowoc arrived Manistee early Tuesday morning on her usual visit to deliver coal to the TES – Filer City Plant. The ship departed around 13:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Saginaw River – Todd Shorkey
Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived on the Saginaw River early Tuesday morning, delivering a split cargo to the Wirt Stone Docks in Bay City and Saginaw. After unloading a partial cargo in Bay City, the pair departed the Wirt Dock with the tug North Dakota on Pathfinder’s bow, assisting them through the Bay City bridges. The line was then dropped and North Dakota then fell in behind Dorothy Ann, following her up to the Saginaw Wirt Dock.

Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
Paul R. Tregurtha arrived with coal for DTE.

Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit departed for Sept-Iles, PQ. Victory/Maumee is loading at CSX  Algoma Conveyor was a late night arrival.

Marblehead, OH – Bill Kloss
Saginaw arrived to load at Holcim.

Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
Happy River departed to Burns Harbor, IN. Still at the Port are Flevogracht and Federal Cedar. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement moved from Holcim to the St. Marys Jefferson St. terminal. American Courage is on the shuttles.

Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
CSL’s Frontenac has returned for another load of road salt at Morton.

Conneaut, OH – Bill Kloss
John J. Boland departed for Gary, IN.

Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Algocanada is at Imperial Oil. Harvest Spirit was anchored and did not depart for Hamilton as was reported earlier. She’s back at the dock. Edwin H. Gott delivered ore to Stelco. Once the Gott departed for Two Harbors, CSL Tadoussac arrived with more ore.
