Nukumi crew comes to aid of fishing boat in distress

On July 22, a fishing vessel sent a distress signal to the Coast Guard as it was taking on water in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Coast Guard quickly responded by dispatching the closest vessel, MV Nukumi, to assist. A Coast Guard Hercules aircraft dropped portable pumps and life rafts near the distressed fishing vessel.

Captain Kevin Crouse and the Nukumi crew launched the ship’s rescue boat and towed the pumps to the sinking fishing vessel. They also towed the life raft with all four crew members on board to the Coast Guard vessel.

Once everyone from the distressed fishing vessel was safely on board the Coast Guard vessel, MV Nukumi resumed her transit to the Magdalen Islands.

Thanks to the brave and quick actions of the Nukumi crew, the four fishing boat crew members were safely rescued.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Nukumi crew for their courage, quick thinking, and unwavering dedication to the rescue operation.
