James R. Barker is currently loading in Two Harbors as of 16:30. Edwin H. Gott is off Two Harbors to load after the Barker. American Integrity is currently upbound at Whitefish Point for Two Harbors.
Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader departed Silver Bay at 08:27 for Toledo.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Traffic was all Well-and good Wednesday afternoon before a quiet evening left the day’s count at three total passages. CSL Welland and Federal Welland (perhaps long-lost cousins?) made up all the motion in port, with the former arriving at 14:22 for Viterra A. The Welland of the Federal variety would depart her berth at Keefer Terminal shortly after 15:00 before heading out and back in again for Richardson Main.
Other vessels in port included Federal Dart at Richardson Current River, Onego Bayou at Keefer Terminal, and G3 Marquis at P&H. Gardno, Verila, Federal Fraser, Federal Mayumi, Brant, and Vectis Pride all spent another day at anchor, joined by new arrivals Federal Franklin and Mamry.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Victory/Maumee departed at 05:49 for Cleveland, the only traffic for Wednesday. This starts what seems to be a bit of a dry spell at Marquette.
Drummond Island, MI (Drummond, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Manitowoc made the dock at Drummond Dolomite shortly after 08:00, where she spent the rest of her morning, afternoon, and early evening filling up with stone. The river-class workhorse departed at 21:25 for St. Joseph, MI, where she will exchange the rocks for a few dozen tasty pastries on Friday — sounds like a pretty good trade-off!
Port Dolomite, MI (Cedarville, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived at 08:18, loaded stone, and departed at 14:13 for Bay City, MI.
Brevort, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Herbert C. Jackson headed inbound Sand Products Corp. at around 20:00 to take on an aggregate mixture. Come Thursday morning, the giant floating sandbox is expected to set course for Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
Port Inland, MI (Gulliver, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet capped off a short visit at 18:23, departing with stone for Fairport Harbor, OH.
Escanaba, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Once a common sight in the harbor, freighters have become few and far between anywhere in the vicinity of Esky. Occasional visits are now a noteworthy occurrence, as was the case for Algoma Intrepid and her delivery of salt at 09:17 Wednesday morning. The Canadian salt carrier arrived from Goderich, ON, with a delivery for C. Reiss Dock 1, later departing back out to the lake at 16:51.
Grand Haven, MI – Ferrysburg, MI – Noah H.
Following a bustling Tuesday was a comparatively modest Wednesday in terms of Grand Haven ship traffic. Classic Kaye E. Barker arrived at 03:12, bringing stone from Port Dolomite to the Verplank dock up in Ferrysburg. As per usual, the unload did not take long and the Barker departed for Port Inland at 11:32.
Calcite, MI (Rogers City, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Departing for Detroit, MI, at 02:35 was John J. Boland.
Bruce Mines, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Olive L. Moore pushed barge Menominee outbound at 01:00 for Detroit, MI.
Meldrum Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After an overnight unload in Spragge, ON, Manitoulin ventured south for another load of stone on the shores of her namesake island. She cleared late evening for a downbound destination not yet specified by AIS.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Harvest Spirit arrived at 13:43 Tuesday and is at the elevators. Algoma Conveyor arrived at 17:01 Tuesday and is loading at Compass Minerals. This is the Conveyor’s 13th appearance here this season. Algoma Buffalo is scheduled next for salt.
Saginaw River – Joshua Hebeisen
Boatwatchers were on double duty for most of the day thanks to arrivals by occasional visitors American Mariner and Algoma Intrepid. Both boats brought in stone, with the Mariner pulling into Bay Aggregates in Bay City, MI, midmorning to deliver her cargo from Calcite, MI. The American vessel was wrapping up by midafternoon, by which time her Canadian counterpart was already well down the river with the assistance of G-tug North Dakota. The Intrepid would unload her cargo from Meldrum Bay, ON, at both the GM Dock and Saginaw Rock Products/Burroughs berth well into the night. The Mariner was on her way back to Calcite as of the time of this writing.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
Albert/Margaret is at the Gradel dock. Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader is loading at CSX.
Sandusky, OH – Bill Kloss
Algoma Niagara arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Lorain, OH – Bill Kloss
Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Toledo.
Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
Sam Laud is running a second shuttle. Wilfred Sykes departed to Toledo once empty, and Mark W. Barker arrived at Cargill to load road salt.
Grand River, OH – Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
Defiance/Ashtabula unloaded at Osborne then left for Calcite. Frontenac departed with salt for Johnstown.
Erie, PA – Bill Kloss
After unloading at Carmeuse, American Courage left for Cleveland.
Buffalo, NY – Lackawanna, NY – Tonawanda, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The NACC Alicudi arrived off Buffalo around 16:00 on September 6. The tug Vermont was on her way down to get them when the tug stopped above the Ohio St. Bridge. They sat there for a few minutes and returned to their dock. I’m guessing either Ohio St. wouldn’t raise or the Captain of the Alicudi changed his mind due to the windy conditions and some threatening weather coming down the lake.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Algoterra left with petroleum products for Tracy, PQ. Algosea was the next tanker to arrive at Imperial Oil.
