SARNIA, ON-Rene Beauchamp
Algoluna, ex Birgit Knutsen, left Sarnia Sunday for Sorel-Tracy. Expected
arrival date November 29.
ST. MARYS RIVER-Know Your Ships
With gale warnings in effect, plus on-and-off heavy snow squalls, there was little traffic
moving Monday on the river. Vessels anchored in Potaganissing Bay above DeTour
Monday evening included Lee A. Tregurtha, Kaministiqua, Thunder Bay, Federal Asahi,
Oakglen, Miedwe and Happy Rover. Cuyahoga was at anchor but late in the day
headed upbound for Algoma Steel. John J. Boland attempted to lave Algoma in the late
afternoon but returned to the dock. Saltie Onego Duero, bound for Detroit, was
anchored off Bay Mills. Edgar B. Speer and Indiana Harbor were anchored in the lee of
Whitefish Point. Arthur M. Anderson and Algoma Intrepid were sheltering in Goulais
Bay. Further west, three Canada Steamship Lines lakers – Frontenac, CSL Welland
and CSL Laurentien – were anchored in the lee of the Keweenaw Peninsula. To the
south, Herbert C. Jackson was on the hook north of St. Ignace.
TOLEDO, OHIO-Bill Kloss
American Spirit arrived with ore for Torco. Bradshaw McKee/St.Marys Conquest left for Cleveland and Albert/Margaret departed for Green Bay. John D. Leitch is at CSX and Algoma Niagara remains at Ironhead Marine
TOLEDO,OHIO-Paul C. LaMarre III
Sunday night marked the first time that a 1,000-foot lake freighter was towed stern-first into the Maumee River through the CSX railroad bridge. The vessel was the American Spirit, headed for the Ironville plant.
SANDUSKY, OHIO-Bill Kloss
CSL Niagara and Calumet are anchored in Lake Erie.
CLEVELAND, OHIO-Bill Kloss
Calumet unloaded stone then left for Sandusky. NACC Alicudi is at Holcim and fleetmate NACC Antigua is at Lehigh Cement. New York/DS509A is still anchored.
GRAND RIVER, OHIO – FAIRPORT, OHIO-Bill Kloss
Northern Venture departed with salt.
NANTICOKE, ONTARIO-Bill Kloss
Algotitan left with petroleum products for Tracy, PQ. Qikiqtaaluk W is loading and Sarah Desgagnes is anchored.
