It appears FEDERAL CARIBOU has a breakdown and remains in the Grass Island anchorage for now. I was not able to hear the radio transmission at the time as it is too far away.
BUFFALO,NEW YORK [USBUF]-Brian Wroblewski
The push boat CMT OTTER arrived on the afternoon of July 16th with a barge carrying half of the new pedestrian bridge for the Ralph Wilson Park on the Buffalo waterfront. They got here from Albany by using the Erie Canal after the bridge pieces were dropped off there via ocean going freighter from Italy. This was the first large commercial move West of Oswego to Buffalo in many years. After dropping off the barge at the park, the tug headed back to Albion, NY to get the second one.
SUNNANVIK made a quick return trip to Holcim on the 17th, arriving around 6AM and departing around 6PM, both times, with no tugs.
On July 19th, the OTTER made it as far as Lockport, NY where I caught up to them in the Flight Locks (34 and 35) of the Erie Canal. It was an awesome sight to see with literally thousands of people lining the walls and all the bridges in downtown Lockport from one end of town to the other. They clapped and cheered for the crew and the OTTER’s Captain blew them all multiple salutes as they locked through up bound. Later that evening they secured along the wall on the South side of the canal at Tonawanda right at the CSX drawbridge in town.
