The large tug KIMBERLY JOY (formerly the MANITOU) arrived around 1PM on the 26th to pick up a couple of Ryba’s barges here. She went up the Buffalo River to the old pilings at the foot of Katherine St. where they had been moored since last year. Around the time they were picking up the two barges, the SUNNANVIK got underway from Holcim, stern first for the harbor. Things got really interesting for the city bridge tender in the next hour or so. After having let the JOY through Michigan and Ohio St. on the way up, he then drove back down to Michigan St. to let out the SUNNANVIK, then drove back to Ohio St. to let out the JOY with her barges, then back to Michigan to let her through there, and then back to home base at Ohio St. After all that, the SUNNANVIK had winded in the Outer Harbor on the thrusters and took off for Port Colborne with the KIMBERLY JOY right behind her. When the JOY cleared the Buffalo River, she turned her barges down the Outer Harbor and they headed for Lackawanna. Down at the Union Ship Canal, the tug docked her consort at the Gateway Metroport near the big stone piles. The Captain had decided to stay there for the night and let the crew take a well deserved rest.

Arriving were John J. Boland with 28,000 tons of Tilden pellets for the Bulk Terminal,Petite Forte/St.Marys Cement to unload at St. Marys Jefferson St. and Mark W. Barker with a split unload for Allied Road Products and Osborne. Departing were G.L. Ostrander/Integrity to Alpena, Algoma Intrepid to Hamilton and Calumet to Detroit.
