Repairs Complete, CSL Niagara Set To Resume Service
CSL Niagara, which sustained damage to her port bow after hitting the lower end of the approach wall below Beauharnois Lock 3 on April 9, has been repaired and is expected to depart Montreal soon. She is due May 11 and BNSF in Superior to load.

Repairs to Meteor Museum Ship Delays Opening
SUPERIOR, WI – Structural problems on the SS Meteor are being fixed, delaying her seasonal opening to mid-Summer 2025.

As summer approaches, we want to provide an update about everyone’s favorite ship out of water, the SS Meteor. As many of you might know, the SS Meteor does not actually sit in the water! In the 1970s, she was land-berthed on Barker’s Island to become a museum.
Over time, with shifting sediments and the freeze/thaw cycle of the ground, the
Meteor, like any other ship in her situation, has undergone some structural stress, and a crack has begun to form in the ship’s expansion hold.
The SS Meteor is on the road to recovery, thanks to a partnership between Superior Public Museums, the City of Superior, the United States Coast Guard, and AMI Engineering.
To ensure everyone’s safety, the City has restricted access to the ship while the repairs are being completed. That unfortunately means that the annual reopening of the SS Meteor for guided tours will be delayed.
We’re working closely with our partners to reopen the ship as soon as it’s safe, with a current goal of mid-Summer 2025.
Meteor is the sole surviving ship of the unconventional “whaleback” design. The design, created by Scottish captain Alexander McDougall, enabled her to carry a maximum amount of cargo with a minimum of draft. Meteor was built in 1896 in Superior, Wisconsin, and, with a number of modifications, sailed until 1969.
Great Lakes Limestone Trade Down 21.6 Percent in April
CLEVELAND — Limestone shipments totaled 1.8 million net tons, a decrease of 21.6 percent compared to a year ago. Loadings were also below the month’s 5-year average by 15.7 percent.
Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 1.5 million tons, a decrease of 18.2 percent. Loadings at Canadian quarries decreased by 35.3 percent to 297,064 tons.
Year-to-date, the limestone trade stands at 2 million tons, a decrease of 22.7 percent from 2024. Shipments from U.S. and Canadian ports decreased by 19.4 and 37.3 percent, respectively, from the previous year.

This year’s St. Mary’s River cruise will be aboard a Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours boat on Friday, June 27. Boarding begins at 5:30 pm, and we cast off at 6pm. The cruise is three hours long. We plan to travel through the U.S. Locks, but that may change in order to chase freighters.
Pizza and salad are included in paid passage. There will be a cash bar on board. You can bring your own food and beverages (you cannot bring alcohol).
Reservations are a must, as the group is limited to 100 passengers. Mailed checks must be received no later than Friday, June 20.
If the cruise is not sold out by June 20, we will take online or cash (US funds only) reservations at the Procrastinator Price of $45.00 per General Admission ticket. Youth ticket rates stay the same as listed above.
