Firefighters extinguish fire
on docked Frontenac

Sturgeon Bay, WI – Firefighters from multiple departments in Door County responded to a fire on the bulk carrier Frontenac at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding around noon Tuesday.

The fire reportedly occurred while cleaning the dust container onboard the ship.  Not much smoke was visible from outside of the scene, but firefighters had to weave through the ship to get water to the source of the fire, which was contained in about an hour. There were no injuries reported.

According to the Canada Steamship Lines website, the Frontenac was built in 1968 and converted into a self-unloader in 1973.
