Ferry Niigaan Enaazhek Heads For Georgian Bay
The new ferry Niigaan Enaazhek is on the way to her new home on Christian Island, ON, in Georgian Bay. She left Superior, Wisconsin on Tuesday and passed through the Soo Locks on Thursday.
The double-ended ferry was built at Fraser Shipyards. Destined for Beausoleil First Nation, the people depend on boats year-round, for three or four 30-minute voyages a day.
The roll-on, roll-off ferry measures a little over 200 feet in length. It’s designed to carry 150 people and up to 35 vehicles. The ferry’s name means “moving forward.”
The new vessel uses Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP) for its propulsion. The ferry has a diesel-electric power plant, which means the VSPs are directly driven by an e-motor. The ferry design and VSP configuration take into account the most effective way to operate a vessel under many different environmental conditions, including cold and ice.

ABOUT THE POSITION

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with strong management skills and in-depth knowledge about port administration and operations, including lease negotiation, carrier negotiations, business development, financial planning, and economic and market research.
