Museum tug John Purves to head to shipyard Monday
The Door County Maritime Museum expects to move the tug John Purves Monday morning, December 11. She will be moved by tugs from Roen Salvage and brought to Fincatiari Bay Ship in Sturgeon Bay for drydocking to do some needed maintenance. The 1919-built tug will return to the west waterfront and moor in her berth alongside the Door County Maritime Museum in early spring.
The Door County Maritime Museum, which began offering tours of the tug boat in 2008, secured the last piece of funding needed to make a number of repairs to the vessel’s hull among other improvements. Deputy Director and Development Manager Sam Perlman says it is important for the tug to be preserved for future generations to tour, something over 70,000 people have already been able to experience.
