American Spirit closes Soo Locks season

   Sault Ste. Marie, MI – The last downbound vessel to transit the Soo Locks this season was the 1,000-footer American Spirit, downbound in the Poe Lock Thursday in the early evening. Although she did not have much trouble with ice entering the lock, there were problems when she was exiting. She finally cleared the locks at 8:35 p.m.
   American Spirit is carrying pellets for Conneaut loaded at Two Harbors.
   She was preceded by John G. Munson and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader earlier in the day. The locks will reopen for the season March 25.
