1903: MANZZUTTI was launched January 31, 1903, as a.) J S KEEFE (Hull#203) at Buffalo, New York by the Buffalo Dry Dock Co.
1917
1917: DUNDEE, which left the Great Lakes in 1915 after service in several fleets including Canada Steamship Lines, was torpedoed and sunk by U-55. The vessel was 10 miles north and west of Ives Head, Cornwall, England, while enroute, in ballast, from London to Swansea. One life was lost.
1930
1930: January 31, 1930 – While the Grand Trunk carferry MADISON was leading the way across Lake Michigan to Grand Haven, she was struck from behind by her sister ship GRAND RAPIDS.
2023:
1-31-2023: The Algoma Central Corp. tanker Algonorth has been sold to Furetank. She is currently on her way to Kalundborg, Denmark. Next, she will be drydocked, reflagged and given her new name.
Algonorth was built in 2008 at Tuzla Shipbuilding in Turkey as Ramira. Algoma Central Corp. purchased her in 2019 and was named in an employee “Name that Tanker” company contest.
This was the second vessel with the name Algonorth. The first one, a bulk carrier, was scrapped in 2013 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Algoma Central Corp. and Furetank established a 50/50 joint venture named Furebear in August 2022
