Algoma Conveyor
During construction, Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. in Nantong City, China went out of business. Algoma acquired the Conveyor at auction from the failed shipyard in 2017. The ship was then taken to Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in Jiangsu, China, for refurbishment and final construction.
The completed vessel departed China in February 2019, crossing the Pacific Ocean and travelling through the Panama Canal before ending its journey in Canada. The Conveyor arrived in Canada reaching Sept Isles, Quebec, on April 15. There it was changed to the Canadian Flag and a Canadian crew took over heading to Port Cartier to load their first cargo, iron ore pellets for Hamilton, Ontario.
