The morning of the 4th was nice and calm out there and the ROSARY A. DESGAGNES was finally done unloading her windmill parts at Gateway. The VERMONT came down from Buffalo to tow her into the harbor, wind off the CRH Terminal, and head out to the lake.
  Vane Marine’s tug NEW YORK was keeping busy hauling lots of barge loads of asphalt during mid-July. She was back with another one for Suite Kote on the hazy morning of the 8th. This time they were already in push mode and came straight in for the Black Rock Lock at 8AM. They did not need assistance and went down to the dock without the VERMONT.
 The barge DS509A was unloaded and ready to depart by the morning of the 9th so the NEW YORK took her out unassisted, leaving the Suit Kote pier at 7AM. She cleared Buffalo Harbor around 9:30AM and switched the tow around outside the breakwall. After rearranging from push to pull, the NEW YORK headed up a wildfire smoke obscured lake Erie, bound for the Marathon loading docks at Detroit.
  SUNNANVIK brought in a load of cement for Holcim from Bath on the 10th at 5AM. She did her standard move up the river, going relatively quick and without tugs, tying up at the dock about an hour later.
  The morning of the 11th was nice and calm and the SUNNANVIK was all set to go around 6AM. She then backed out to the harbor, winded on the thrusters, and departed for Port Colborne all by herself. A little later, the AMERICAN MARINER arrived for General Mills around 9AM and came in without assistance. She went right up the Buffalo River and was all secured at the Frontier elevator for unloading by 10AM.   
  The MARINER was all done at General Mills on the morning of the 13th so they dropped lines and backed out for the Outer Harbor around 4:30AM. After winding off the Erie Basin, she headed West under a warm Lake Erie sunrise. With her departure, she freed up some room in the City Ship Canal so when the tug-barge combo JOYCE L VANENKEVORT – GREAT LAKES TRADER arrived at 1PM, they were able to come straight in with a load of sand for CSI with no problems.
  The TRADER was all empty of sand by the early morning of the 14th so her tug JOYCE backed the big barge all the way out to the lake around 12:30AM. They kept on going until well clear of the breakwall, winded out in open waters on the thrusters, and headed for Marblehead, OH.
  Lower Lake’s MANITOULIN arrived on the morning of the 16th with wheat from Thunder Bay for ADM around 9AM. She came in the North Entrance, stopped facing down the Outer Harbor, and was taken under tow stern first by the VERMONT. The MANITOULIN was all secure at the Standard Elevator around  10:30AM and began unloading shortly after. The VERMONT was back on hand again around 3PM at the South Entrance when the saltie FEDERAL CEDAR arrived from Port Colborne. They docked the ship at the Sucros Sourcing sugar refinery for unloading and then released her tug. The CEDAR had loaded bulk sugar at Veracruz, Mexico a couple weeks before and this was her first trip to Lackawanna.
  The MANITOULIN was done unloading at the Standard on the morning of the 17th and dropped lines around 5AM. She headed out from there all by herself, clearing the Buffalo breakwalls about and hour later bound for Port Colborne.
  Gateway ended up with two ships in port on the 18th when the BERTHE DESGAGNES arrived from the Port Colborne Anchorage with windmill parts. The tug VERMONT met them at the South Entrance to guide the ship through the breakwall around 5AM. Once inside, they turned her bow up the Outer Harbor and came to a stop. The tug switched around to bring her in stern first and got the DESGAGNES docked about half way down the slip on the dimensional unloading apron, about a boat length astern of the FEDERAL CEDAR.
