Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
John D. Leitch departed at 10:15 via the Superior Entry after loading ore at BNSF Dock 5. Her AIS indicates a destination of Quebec City; she may be carrying Keetac pellets for eventual transfer to another vessel and shipment overseas. With the dock open, Algoma Harvester weighed anchor and arrived at 11:00. Across the harbor, fleetmate Algoma Mariner left Duluth at 12:20 with petroleum coke for Port-Daniel. Waiting to load the same cargo at Midwest Energy was Federal Yukina, which had been anchored in the lake since 07:00. She got underway for the Duluth Ship Canal at about 13:00, but had to abort entry and perform an emergency spin twice due to strong winds. The Yukina finally made her entry at 14:55 when the third time proved to be the charm. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. departed Duluth at 18:35 with ore (likely UTAC pellets) from CN Dock 6 destined for Indiana Harbor. Her sister American Integrity, which had been at anchor since about 11:00 awaiting the departure of the McCarthy, got underway at 18:00 to make her arrival. Like Federal Yukina, however, the Integrity was forced to make another go-around due to wind and would not make her way through the Duluth Entry until 20:15. Eeborg was still at Gavilon loading beet pulp pellets, and CSL Assiniboine remained at anchor waiting for Algoma Harvester to depart BNSF.
