Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Scott Bjorklund
Duluth Entry
Clyde S. VanEnkevort arrived in Duluth Monday morning at 01:12 (Central) with limestone for Graymont; they departed at 11:12 empty for Silver Bay. Michipicoten arrived for a long wait at CN at 17:49 that evening. On Tuesday, Mark W. Barker departed at 01:07 with coal for Green Bay. Mesabi Miner departed at 06:05 with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. Vlieborg left at 19:40 with beet pulp pellets for overseas. For Wednesday, the only traffic that took place was John G. Munson departing at 01:21 with iron ore pellets for Gary, and American Integrity took their place at CN arriving at 02:06. On Thursday, American Integrity departed into the fog at 07:48 with iron ore for Indiana Harbor, Spartan arrived with calcium chloride at 09:02 for Envirotech-Hallett #8, and Presque Isle arrived for repairs at Port Terminal at 15:28.
American Century arrived early Friday at 01:28 to fuel before loading low sulfur coal at SMET. After finishing repairs at Port Terminal, Presque Isle departed at 05:36 with iron ore pellets for Gary. John J. Boland arrived at 10:05 for drydocking at Fraser Shipyards. Paul R. Tregurtha arrived at 15:01 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. American Century departed at 15:36 with low sulfur coal for St. Clair. Spartan and Spartan II departed at 17:52 empty for Ludington. Finally, H. Lee White arrived at 23:24 with limestone for Graymont.
As of Friday night, Paul R. Tregurtha was loading at CN. G.L. Ostrander and barge Integrity are due with the season’s first domestic shipment of Cement Saturday mid-morning. H. Lee White is estimated to depart sometime late morning or early afternoon to load in Two Harbors.
Superior Entry
Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin departed Superior at 12:53 (Central) Monday afternoon with iron ore pellets for Quebec City. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived for a short stop at Lakehead at 15:59 Tuesday afternoon before departing at 18:59 to load in Two Harbors. Spruceglen arrived early Wednesday morning at 00:27 to load at BNSF#5; they departed at 16:33 with iron ore pellets for Quebec City. Algoma Guardian was next, arriving at 17:07; they departed at 08:18 Thursday morning for Hamilton. Finally, Baie Comeau arrived at 08:34 to load at BNSF.
Baie Comeau departed Friday morning at 07:18 with iron ore for Nanticoke. As of Friday night, H. Lee White was making their way to Graymont and John J. Boland was drydocked at Fraser. Burns Harbor is expected late Saturday morning to load next at BNSF#5.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived Two Harbors on 4/25 at 22:02, and she departed on 4/26 at 21:25 for Conneaut. The Presque Isle arrived Two Harbors at 22:09 on 4/26 and departed on 4/27 at 13:29 for eventually Nanticoke, but first went to the Duluth Port Terminal for possible repairs. Indiana Harbor arrived Two Harbors on 4/27 at 14:51. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader should arrive Cliffs-North Shore Mining the morning of 4/28.
After the Presque Isle departed Duluth on 4/28 instead of having the Nanticoke destination she had when she departed Two Harbors she now has a Gary destination. The Indiana Harbor departed Two Harbors on 4/28 at 05:35 for Gary Works. The Great Republic arrived Two Harbors at 17:43 on 4/28 for the shiploader. Next in line for Two Harbors should be the tug/barge/Victory-Maumee that is East of the port.
Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
Algoma Intrepid was inbound the Saginaw River on April 25th, calling on the Wirt Sand & Stone Fertilizer Terminal in Essexville. She completed her unload, turned, and was outbound for the lake early the next morning.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Innovator loaded at Compass Minerals with salt for Milwaukee. Algoma Buffalo arrived 16:29 Friday and is loading at Compass Minerals. First appearance here this season.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
April 27
Monroe, MI: American Courage departed for Marblehead and not Cleveland as was reported earlier. New York/Double Skin 509A arrived to unload at the Port dock.
Toledo, OH: Federal Seto and Herbert C. Jackson are at Midwest Terminals. Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader arrived to unload at Ironville.
Marblehead, OH: Cuyahoga loaded stone and departed for Kingsville, ON, arriving there and unloading at Southwestern Sales Corp. Once empty, the classic laker left for Detroit. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is loaded at Holcim and then left for Marine City, MI. American Courage was anchored off of Marblehead, then diverted to Cleveland.
Sandusky, OH: Algoma Conveyor departed with coal for Hamilton, ON.
Cleveland, OH: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson unloaded stone at Cliffs, then moved to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement arrived to unload at St. Marys Jefferson St. terminal.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac loaded salt at Morton and departed for Johnstown, ON. After a brief stop, Defiance/Ashtabula departed for Stoneport.
Ashtabula, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula left for Fairport Harbor.
Conneaut, OH: American Spirit departed for an unnamed Lake Superior port.
Nanticoke, ON: Algosea departed with petroleum products for Sorel-Tracy and fleetmate Algonova arrived to load at Imperial Oil. Algoma Niagara is unloading ore at Stelco.
April 28
Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A is unloading liquid asphalt.
Toledo, OH: Departures were Federal Seto and Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader, both to Detroit. In port are Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader and Herbert C. Jackson.
Cleveland, OH: Mesabi Miner arrived with 58,000 tons of UTAC pellets for the Bulk Terminal. Once empty, she departed for Superior, WI and American Courage arrived to load a shuttle. Other departures were USCGC Mackinaw for Sheboygan and Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson for Meldrum Bay. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement moved from the Jefferson St. terminal to the Columbus St. facility.
Buffalo, NY: CSL Niagara arrived to load coal.
Nanticoke, ON: Departing were Algonova with petroleum products for Sarnia and Algoma Niagara light for Port Cartier. Kitikmeot W arrived later in the day to load at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The CSL Niagara arrived at 14:00 on the 28th to load coal at the Gateway Metroport Main Dock. They came in the South Entrance, turned to Port, and then came to a stop off the CRH terminal. After lining up for the Lackawanna Canal, they backed in for the bulk loading apron and secured about half way down the wall. Payloaders and two portable conveyors were used to fill her up from a large pile of coal that had been brought in by the B&P railroad. They own Bethlehem Steel’s old rotary dumper on the Coke Oven side of the property and they use it to unload the hopper cars for transfer via trucks to the loading area.
