Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Scott Bjorklund
April 6 – Duluth Entry
CSL Assiniboine departed Duluth Thursday morning at 08:16 with assistance from G-tug Kentucky; the Assiniboine was loaded with iron ore pellets destined for Quebec City. After apparent loading issues at Two Harbors, Arthur M. Anderson arrived at 10:09 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. As of Thursday night, Arthur M. Anderson was still loading at CN. They should be leaving sometime early Friday morning with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. Now that the lake has finally calmed down, we should see the American Century and American Integrity arriving sometime Friday afternoon.

April 6 – Superior Entry
Algoma Intrepid departed Superior at 06:53 Thursday morning with iron ore pellets for Quebec City. Stewart J. Cort shifted over to BNSF from Port Terminal soon after the Intrepid’s departure. As of Thursday night, Stewart J. Cort was loading at BNSF, Joyce L. VanEnkevort was waiting at Fraser Shipyards, and American Spirit was still wintering at Elevator M. Stewart J. Cort is estimated to depart early Friday morning. Joyce L. VanEnkevort should shift over to BNSF once the Cort departs.

April 7 – Duluth Entry
Arthur M. Anderson started the activity at the Duluth Ship Canal Friday morning when they departed at 05:11 (Central) with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. Joseph L. Block arrived from anchor at 05:45 to take the Anderson’s place at CN#6. Joyce L. VanEnkevort departed at 08:13 in preparation for the Cort’s departure from Superior. Mesabi Miner arrived at 15:00 to load low sulfur coal at SMET. American Century arrived at 17:15 to fuel at Cenovus before taking the Miner’s place at SMET.

As of Friday night, Joseph L. Block was still loading iron ore pellets at CN#6 and American Century was still waiting at the fuel dock. We have a long lineup of vessel incoming for Saturday. Joseph L. Block may depart sometime Saturday morning, and American Integrity will then arrive to load iron ore pellets at CN. Mesabi Miner is estimated to depart early Saturday morning, and American Century will then shift to SMET. Algoma Sault is expected mid-Saturday morning with salt for Envirotech-Hallett #8, and John J. Boland is expected mid-afternoon with limestone for CN-Hallett #5. Any other vessels that arrive tomorrow will be waiting in line for CN#6.

April 7 – Superior Entry
Stewart J. Cort departed at 09:58 (Central) Friday morning with iron ore pellets for Burns Harbor. Joyce L. VanEnkevort then arrived at 10:30 to load at BNSF#5. As of Friday night, Joyce was still loading at BNSF and Mesabi Miner was still loading at SMET. Joyce L. VanEnkevort is expected to depart sometime early Saturday morning. Like Duluth, several vessel will be lined up outside Superior tomorrow. James R. Barker will be loading after the Joyce.

Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Arthur M. Anderson departed Two Harbors at 0:800 on 4/6 for Duluth. Great Republic departed Two Harbors on 4/5 at 13:19. On 4/6 at 16:00 she was off Isle Royale heading for the Gary Works. Joseph L.Block shifted several times between Duluth and Two Harbors and several times at the shiploader dock. 

No traffic on 4/7. The John G. Munson is at Whitefish Pt. for Two Harbors. That’s the closest nearest traffic.

Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
As of Thursday night, currently at the ore dock here in Marquette are the Hon. James Oberstar and the Kaye Barker. They will eventually depart when the weather improves across the region. In addition, the American Century took refuge from the weather in far southern end of Marquette’s lower harbor and as of this Report, it was still anchored near Marquette. Pending weather conditions, the Lee Tregurtha is due tomorrow afternoon. The John Boland is due late Saturday evening while two boats, the Kaye Barker and Herbert Jackson are both due into the ore dock Sunday morning.

Thunder Bay, ON – Know Your Ships
Atlantic Huron is at Keefer Terminal in Thunder Bay with CPP (Control Pitch Propeller) issues. Waterfront reports indicate she may go on the drydock in the next week or so.

Manistee, MI – Chris Franckowiak
SHE FITS! – The 639 foot long, 78 foot wide MARK W BARKER arrived Manistee Friday morning to deliver a load of slag from Burns Harbor, IN to the Rieth-Riley dock. The ship was the second 78 foot wide vessel to visit Manistee, after the Roger M Kyes transited in October 1987. The Barker was the first vessel operated by the Interlake Steamship Company to visit Manistee since 1997.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Conveyor cleared 16:59 Wednesday downbound for Cote St Catherines with salt. Algoma Sault cleared 12:09 Thursday upbound for Superior with salt. Algoma Compass arrived 12:41 Thursday, loading at Compass Minerals. Second appearance here for Compass this new season.

Algoma Compass cleared 22:20 Thursday upbound for Green Bay WI with salt. Algoma Innovator arrived 02:11 Saturday, loading at Compass Minerals. Algoma Mariner arrived 12:41 Saturday and anchored outside breakwalls to load salt next. Second appearance this NEW season for Mariner….vessel appeared here once last season carrying a load of rock salt to Quebec City, during December 2022. Saginaw expected next, probably go to elevators.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
April 6
Monroe, MI: Karen Andrie/Endeavor left for Detroit and then Indiana Harbor. Still unloading is New York/Double Skin 509A.
Toledo, OH: Alpena arrived, unloaded and departed for her namesake port. Freshly painted Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader arrived and went to Torco.
Sandusky, OH: Michipicoten departed for Algoma Steel at the Soo.
Cleveland, OH: Algoma Innovator departed with salt for Thorold, ON. Arrivals included DorothyAnn/Pathfinder, anchoring in Lake Erie and American Courage from Ashtabula. American Courage is loading a shuttle. Wilfred Sykes is tied up at Lehigh Cement waiting for river currents to subside. In port are the saltie Isadora at Dock 24W at the Port and Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II. Once the river calmed, Wilfred Sykes headed to Cliffs and Dorothy Ann pushed Pathfinder to RiverDock.
Ashtabula, OH: American Courage departed layup for Cleveland.
Nanticoke, ON: Algosea left with petroleum products for Sarnia. Baie Comeau unloaded and left for Superior, WI and CSL Tadoussac was next to unload ore at Stelco. Once empty she left for Bowmanville, ON. Algoterra arrived and joined new fleetmate Algotitan at Imperial Oil.

April 7
Monroe, MI: Paul R. Tregurtha arrived with coal for the DTE plant. She unloaded and then departed for a return to Superior, WI.
Toledo, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Detroit.
Cleveland, OH: DorothyAnn/Pathfinder unloaded at RiverDock, then departed for Stoneport. American Courage loaded a shuttle and Wilfred Sykes delivered a shuttle. Tug ST 911 arrived from Detroit.
Ashtabula, OH: Victory/Maumee arrived from Erie, PA.
Erie, PA: Victory/Maumee departed layup in Erie and headed to Ashtabula. The sandsucker J.S. St. John is working in Lake Erie.
Nanticoke, ON: CSL Niagara arrived to unload ore at Stelco. Once empty she left for Toledo. Algoterra and Algotitan both departed for Sarnia, ON.
