Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Salties were packed like sardines in the anchorage on Monday morning, with a grand total of six ships swinging by the hook at midday. Joining the fray at 04:00 and 08:30, respectively, Barnacle and Federal Frontier were the most recent additions to a lineup already consisting of Tundra, Federal Kumano, Federal Oshima, and Federal Montreal.

The Federal fun continued midafternoon when Federal Cedar made port for Keefer Terminal at 15:02. Just over an hour later, Federal Shimanto cast off from Thunder Bay Terminals destined for Montreal, QC. Tundra was inbound within minutes to take her spot, and Federal Kumano followed suit with an 18:44 arrival for P&H, clearing out the anchorage a little heading into Monday night. Federal Oshima, Federal Montreal, Federal Frontier, and Barnacle held their ground (literally) into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Of note, a pleasure craft called “Boomerang” left port at 09:31… and didn’t come back. Pretty misleading name if you ask me.

Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Toledo at 04:39 to start the traffic on Monday, but the next action would not come for another 12 hours. At 17:38, Lee A. Tregurtha departed for “The Dearborn” as the AIS says. Not to be confused with regular old Dearborn, I suppose. Before the night was over, Joseph L. Block stopped by at 20:31 to unload sinter from Silver Bay in the lower harbor.

Port Dolomite, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Defiance/Ashtabula arrived at 14:10 to load for Buffington Harbor, IN.

American Mariner would later arrive at 16:07.

St. Joseph, MIMichael Moran
Samuel de Champlain/Innovation arrived in port at 00:13 Monday morning. The pair unloaded at Holcim Cement and departed at 17:17. Despite
Red Coach being closed for the day and Golden Brown announcing the permanent closure of their St. Joseph location, the crew was still delivered donuts from Dunkin’.

Grand Haven, MI – Noah H.
At midday, a trio of Coast Guard vessels arrived through the Grand Haven piers for the annual Coast Guard Festival. Mackinaw, Katmai Bay, and Bristol Bay all arrived to dock by the CG station along the shore, and will be the centerpieces for the week’s activities. In other news, Caroline McKee/Commander finally left for Chicago at 17:29, concluding an almost exactly 72 hour visit at the cement dock.

Calcite, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Arthur M. Anderson arrived at 00:51, pulling into the northern slip opposite fleetmate Great Republic. The latter was already loading and departed at 14:14 for the Motor City. 1,004-foot American Spirit, doing some nervous pacing out on the lake prior to a rather rare stone load, would fill up both slips with her wide girth following AMA’s departure for Gary, IN, at 16:14.

Stoneport, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Interlake sophomore Mark W. Barker was inbound at 03:00 to load, later departing at 16:30 for Cleveland, OH.

Meldrum Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
American Century made for Muskegon, MI, at 09:30 following another load at Lafarge. The Times They Are A-Changin’, and a footer full of stone is slowly becoming a less shocking sight to see across the lakes. The smaller H. Lee White tied up an hour later for a load of her own.
