Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader were outbound Superior before sunrise after another successful trip to the Twin Ports, which saw the ATB combo both discharge limestone at Graymont and take on 35,000 tons of Hibtac pellets at BNSF Dock 5. Their next stop will be one of Toledo’s Cleveland-Cliffs facilities. Entering the Superior piers later in the morning at 10:58 would be CSL Assiniboine, also for Hibtac pellets, albeit 5,000 less tons than the VanEnkevort/Trader. She snuck out just before midnight destined for Quebec. Duluth welcomed back USCGC Spar and her crew around 08:00 after their trip to Lake Michigan for the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival; she now happily regains her status as the big coastie in town. The only big freighter Duluth would receive on Wednesday was the Hon. James L. Oberstar, arriving at 22:31 with a split load of stone from Stoneport and Meldrum Bay. The cargo is currently being put into piles at CN-Hallett Dock 5.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
The Walter J McCarthy is loading taconite at Two Harbors.
The Rt Hon Paul J Martin is destined for Two Harbors to load taconite.
The Spruceglen is destined for Two Harbors to load taconite.
The Clyde S Vanenkevort is destined for Silver Bay to load taconite.
Bruce Mines, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Following a run to the east coast of Lake Michigan, Michipicoten was back in Canadian waters for a load of stone at 10:15 Wednesday morning. The classic workhorse was headed downbound at 20:30, likely for a Lake Erie port.
Stoneport, MI – Joshua Hebeisen The upbound beauty Kaye E. Barker was approaching Stoneport just before 23:00 when her AIS cut out.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
A sleepy day in the Motor City began with a downbound Lee A. Tregurtha arrival at 04:09; as usual, she sailed up the Rouge for Dearborn with Tilden pellets from Marquette. Her fleetmates Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder would join her in unloading farther down the river at what appeared to be Motor City Materials. The WWII veteran and ATB combo were outbound at 15:56 for Sandusky and 16:15 for Marblehead, respectively. Calumet arrived at 23:00 and took the dock at Windsor Salt.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Innovator arrived 13.30 Tuesday, backing-in, tied up along North Pier, probably enabling Intrepid to load salt first. Algoma Intrepid arrived 17.33 Tuesday backing-in to Compass Minerals, 15th appearance for Intrepid here this season.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Samuel deChamplain/Innovation departed for Cleveland. Victory/Maumee arrived at the Torco dock at 10:59. The tug/barge departed for Sandusky at 17:48. Algoma Transport is still at CSX.
Marblehead, OH: Calumet left late Tuesday night for Marysville. Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 02:33 to load at Holcim. She departed at 18:10. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder was a late night arrival to load stone.
Sandusky, OH: Tug Miss Lis, owned by TradeWinds Towing based in New Orleans,arrived at the George Gradel dock at 07:15. Lee A. Tregurtha arrived late Wednesday night, followed by Victory/Maumee, both to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Lorain, OH: Herbert C. Jackson finished unloading and departed for Marblehead at 00:21.
Cleveland, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder left with salt for Detroit. Samuel deChamplain/Innovation arrived at 12:05 to unload at Holcim Cement. Mark W. Barker arrived at 14:01. The new boat will be running a few shuttles before being officially christened in Cleveland.
Fairport Harbor, OH: A late Wednesday night arrival was John J. Boland with stone for Osborne.
Buffalo, NY: Mark W. Barker departed for Cleveland at 01:04.
Nanticoke, ON: CSL Niagara arrived at Stelco at 09:06 to unload ore. After unloading, she left for Superior at 18:17. Algonorth arrived at 17:23 and dropped anchor off of Port Dover. Algosea remains at Imperial Oil.
